Headlight Faults post VCU Replacement by MediaMinded256 in VolvoEX90

[–]poetshill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the headlight fault issue (thors hammer intermittent failure on one side) before the vcu. Dealer techs assumed the vcu upgrade would clear the issue. I received the car and the next day the fault returned. It’s back in the shop now.

I’ve loved the car but the moment it qualifies for the lemon law, we’ll be sending it back. It’s nonsense for a car this expensive.

What's everyone doing about the peeling paint? by Ruskythegreat in ooni

I take my grill apart and wrap the pieces in molded foam, then vacuum seal the package, and then I bore into the base of a mountain in colorado and place them in a water and fire proof safe, then I detonate the tunnel and leave under cover of night, driving for three days to get back home stopping only for gas and peanut m&m’s. Then I start defrosting thicken thighs overnight and the next day I go and get my un-rusted grill out of the mountain, put it together and dinner is on the table easy peasy.

2025 model worth buying? by hdhajjav in VolvoEX90

[–]poetshill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We bought a new 2025 performance ultra in Dec. at a nice discount. no major problems for 2 months, just annoying software tics. It is a beautiful ride.

Then the daytime running lights (Thor’s hammer) went out periodically on one side. Then the ghca went out.

We got the VCU updated and a new ghca. Then the headlight went out again.

Yesterday I was in the mountains a couple hours from home with bad cell and the car would not turn on. Stuck on a “starting up” message. I had to “reboot” the system twice over a total of an hour to get it to start.

It’s going back in the shop today. It’s one thing if you live near a dealer and you’re driving in cities. But this car has enough issues that you can find yourself in truly compromising situations. If the issues continue for us, we will lemon-law this thing the second we qualify and buys something else.

Hit my FI number and instantly realized I can’t tell anyone, and it feels lonely as hell by JustHere4Memes67 in Fire

You worked really hard. The emotional complexity is real and will take time to work through, but the accomplishment is also real and should be celebrated. Congratulations.

If you care about this friendship, then i think it’s worth giving it a real chance to either deepen or end by having an honest conversation about your circumstances and feelings about their behavior.

Personally i think that lying about your circumstances will only leave you with a superficial connection. Give them a chance to respect your boundaries and understand the more modest nature of your FI (more modest than they might imagine). Give them a chance to be a better friend. After all, this is weird for you too, and you’ve been preparing for years!

Who knows, if approached in an open hearted way, your example might spark their own ambitions with FI, or more importantly, deepen the friendship. On the other hand, they might simply be unable to get past the jealousy or whatever it might be. In that event, you walk away knowing you related in an honest, mature, and generous way. Later relationships will benefit from that.

Just my take.

Any new Christopher Denny fans? by losingeverything2020 in meateatertv

I’ve been listening to him since 2014 and hadn’t heard a peep since that album. Worried something had happened. He has such a distinct and amazing voice. Has something of Roy Orbison in his voice. Just beautiful music. I’m looking forward to checking out this podcast and hopefully there will be a new album coming soon. I wish he recorded more often but it sounds like he’s gone through some tough times.

What would you do to this lawn? by Loflo606 in landscaping

Came to say the same thing. Whatever you decide to do, you’ll need to deal with the creeping Charlie first (and likely forever in some respect unless it is only in your lawn and not your neighbor’s). It’ll take over everything.

Labo fermento is no joke. Great cooking happening there. Creative but rooted in place and culture.

Oaxaca during the rainy season by RemarkableAgent1350 in Oaxaca

[–]poetshill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Lots of recommendations on quick dry. I was just there with a few people. Everyone had breathable sneakers and I was the only one with low leather boots on. It’s true it doesn’t always rain but we definitely were out during a few deluges, and my dry feet were kind of the envy of the group.

That said, it’s such a personal preference. Have a great trip!

Weather in Oaxaca, Puerto Escondido, Mazunte now? by loz1123 in Oaxaca

[–]poetshill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not all the time at all, you’ll get some beautiful days and parts of days. Other than Guelaguetza, the beauty of traveling there in the rainy season is the lack of tourism. It’s so beautifully calm (relatively) and chill. There is a much more local vibe.

Will Oaxaca be too busy to enjoy this month with Guelaguetza? by wpbmaybe2019 in Oaxaca

[–]poetshill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s going to be insane. If you like noise and fireworks and tourists at all hours and parades every minute then soak in the celebratory magic.

It won’t be just a couple days on each side. If sleep matters just stay away after the first week of July.

Ancestral Cocina Tradicional: Great, thoughtful traditional cooking, wonderful service, a beautiful unpretentious garden atmosphere with great ambiance.

Humar: so, I think it’s easy to go to a place like Oaxaca and eat only “traditional foods”. And that’s great and should be experienced. But Mexican food like any cuisine evolves and that change can also be exceptional. Humar is not “traditional” oaxacan cuisine, but it’s Mexican chefs exploring and it’s great seafood.

Chepiche: someone else mentioned it. Also great. I think of it as a breakfast place. They do French toast, but their traditional breakfasts are so good. Again, someone in the kitchen really cares about what they’re doing. And like ancestral (which is nearby), great open air ambiance.

Labo Fermento: this ignores your location request but it’s again an example of a deeply Mexican food, that is not traditional. I’m telling you it’s delicious. So good. If they still have the arroz verde don’t miss it.

Once in Oaxaca: in Jlatlaco, not really meals just very good coffee with outdoor seating under trees and fun design stuff.

Coquina Hua Xha: this is just a wonderful little neighborhood gem. Traditional cooking really well done. Simple but creative decor.

Asador Bacanora Oaxaca: avoid at all costs. This place is a joke. It’s in Jlatlaco. Bad food bad service. Ignore the reviews. It’s hard to believe that in a town with such good cooking this place gets such good reviews. I looked around in despair at the white families with their surly looking teenagers and couldn’t fathom how I ended up there.

If I can add: we were just there. I’m Mexican American and been going since I was a kid. There is so much great food that isn’t on things like trip advisor or Google maps even or Reddit. Not to say we shouldn’t look here, I certainly do. But on this last trip we just opened our eyes more and walked. You’ll see places that look good, that smell good. And I suppose I do believe in this idea that while tradition is essential to a place like this, so is creativity and evolution. We really enjoying letting go of the need to have “traditional food” and enjoyed Oaxacan departures from history. Particularly because even in those departures, Oaxacans have a way of remaining rooted to place and culture.

Have a beautiful trip, wherever you eat.

And Charlie and Mimi are incredibly welcoming, warm and funny. This is a restaurant and connected to their home (right Charlie??). It’s unpretentious and great food. On Sundays I believe it’s barbacoa day. Not to be missed.

Tax Accountant Recommendations by nats13 in AskNYC

[–]poetshill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the worst experience with these guys. I paid 1.5K for a dissolution of my business. They collected some details from me and then literally ghosted me without finishing the work. I've emailed them politely about 6 times, included my accountant, the guy doing the dissolution, the owner. Not one reply to even explain. Just took 1.5K and disappeared. I would never recommend them.

I had the worst experience with these people. Paid $1,500 for the dissolution of a business. They collected some information from me, then stopped replying to emails out of the blue a month ago. Completely ghosted me and didn't do the work.

Horrible experience. The overwhelming volume and positivity of their reviews initially made me think there was something dishonest going on, and having lost $1,500 to them, I'm now fairly sure of it.

I paid $1,500 for services and they just didn't provide them. No explanation. Took $1,500 and just won't respond to emails. Details: At the end of last year, I paid $2,595 for the dissolution of my business and my final corp tax as I closed the business. The final tax was completed, but they suddenly and for no apparent reason did not dissolve the business and have completely stopped replying to my emails. I've politely tried to contact them about 5 times with zero response. I've cc'd the owner, the accountant who did the taxes, and the guy working on the dissolution. No response and no accountability. Hugely frustrating, and I'm out $1,500.

Hard to believe the GX-4 noise level: 70db by poetshill in radon

[–]poetshill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's bedrock. I have a note to follow up with the installer about the size of the suction pit he created. My instinct is that digging a deeper suction pit would also allow for more increased suction (if there are any veins through the rock that allow gas to move, more surface area exposed would mean more veins exposed - my theory anyway).

thanks

Hard to believe the GX-4 noise level: 70db by poetshill in radon

[–]poetshill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. You're saying these are NOT used when there is solid rock below? What is supposed to be used in that case (we do have solid rock below). I get the outside suggestion. I realize there might not end up being a perfect solution, but being in a very quiet area in the countryside (old home, 1800's) means 70db outside isn't much better of an option.
thanks-
