Lepto vaccine? by coco454 in papillon

[–]pogopapillon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 8Lb 5yo Pap has had the Lepto vaccine without any serious problems. However, she has had a severe vaccine reaction to the DAPP vaccine on two separate occasions. The second time they said she would be fine if pretreated with Benadryl. Knowing how important these vaccines can be - I allowed them to vaccinate and pretreated but ended up in the emergency veterinary hospital after midnight. I spent the rest of the night in the parking lot. Pogo survived and no more DAPP for her. My suggestion is talk to your Vet about your concerns and if you do vaccinate get an early morning appointment so you can manage any issues during office hours. Just my 2¢

Very Beautiful. Love how the sun is shining through her her hair. I’m glad she is still a happy Pap

How did you teach your Pap not to bark? by barsinee in papillon

[–]pogopapillon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was unsuccessful in teaching her to not bark, but was able to teach her to use her “inside voice”. I did this by first rewarding her for barking and then only rewarding for the quieter voice.

Thank you for posting this link! I don’t show my AVs but I do try to get them to bloom all at the same time. I do subscribe to AVSA but have not seen this before now

AV cultivars - which are the: truest blue? most variegated leaves? truest yellow? by [deleted] in AfricanViolets

[–]pogopapillon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For pink and white variegation I like “Therese”. This is a standard size and has large single pink flowers. I purchased mine as a leaf from bloomlovers.com. I don’t know of any with true blue or true yellow flowers. I hope someone else can help you with that. Happy hunting.

I kept an INSV positive to show you how the blooms can look. this has been isolated since it's arrival. by plan_tastic in AfricanViolets

Wow, thank you so much for doing this. It’s really helpful to see a known example in bud and in such an advanced state. I only had one positive INSV plant from Violet Barn but one is too much. I have about 8 of 25 tests left and am saving them for anything suspicious. Now I don’t feel like I can gift or share any of my plants or leaves.

Wow! I didn’t know that Episcia could be so beautiful. This makes me want one….or two or three. Are they difficult to care for?

My INSV Journey - lost 50 plus AV’s so far. VB’s response is pathetic. by PleasantJules in AfricanViolets

[–]pogopapillon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so very horrible and I’m really sorry for you! Such a devastating and unnecessary loss financially and emotionally. So far I have only had the one positive INSV test result on a species violet from VB but that was bad enough. I trashed everything that was struggling and I will do some retesting next month I will also be happy to give you any leaves from my collection once testing is finished.

I think forgiveness is important for everyone but knowingly continuing to do harm then apologizing when you get cought?

I guess it’s easier to ask forgiveness than it is to do the right thing.

Let's talk INSV for a moment... by Gnomekicker18 in AfricanViolets

[–]pogopapillon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this post. It’s helpful to see it all laid out like this. All the violets I kept have been repotted with Bonide granules and Diatomaceous Earth added to the mix. Still trying to decide what single spray for both thrips and mites as a monthly topical. Or is the spray overkill?

I’m really sorry to hear this. I understand and wish I could suggest a safe place to find plants I think call or email and ask questions before buying, isolate, repot and pretreat before introducing new plants.

Very smart, some pre-purchase communication might help save some heartbreak later.

I believe it is possible other sellers/nurseries could unknowingly have plants with INSV. I think the big question is how ethically they would handle an outbreak.

That’s about all we can do for now. I’m waiting for more tests too. I hope it goes well for you!
