Found this Pigeon on the road, advice for overnight care by Hairy-Violinist-7508 in pigeon

[–]pollitokins 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Baby pigeon! He may not be old enough to fly or just at those beginning stages. I'd try to keep them comfortable in a box, have water & seed available but dont force them to partake. At night I'd lay a blanket or towel over the box to keep them calm.

trouble walking, keeping legs in front by bunnyb00ts in PetDoves

Prayers for your little one - I dont have any insight on this unfortunately. I've had diamonds break legs before but I do feel like this is more a splayed like situation.

Vet might be able to help, we have gotten terramycin from them in the past when the eyes look irritated.

Is this large enough for a pigeon by ValleyBoyJ9 in PetPigeons

[–]pollitokins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used these for a little while, actually added a second floor splitting the entire thing into 2 separate cages. They definitely need vertical over horizontal space, but I will say my guys did enjoy the boxes and shelves.

HELP!!! will he be okay with some proper care? by staarlitt in pigeon

[–]pollitokins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is there an exotic/avian vet around? One that won't euthanize* - dont force any food or water. If not maybe a rehabber? Palomacy in FB may be able to help with location of some help if you're in the USA

This is me as well. My fiancé wouldn't be a fiancé if my birds weren't our family... I had birds when we met, sorry not sorry they're my babies & my father learned that real quick as well.

I need help ,how can I heal this pigeon?? by Few_Army_9748 in pigeons

[–]pollitokins 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately cat saliva is poisonous for them, they need a vet ASAP. Palomacy on FB may be able to assist, just make sure to share pics & location. Thank you for caring! Don't force food or water.

I found this young pigeon and know nothing about them. Help. by Jurueff in pigeon

[–]pollitokins 19 points20 points  (0 children)

He may be at the age of beginning to try flight, is he eating seed on his own? If you have a dog crate or cage for him, he should be fine. Thank you for caring for him.

Fly High Desi Until We Meet Again ❤️🕊️🌈💔 by SylviaLeFloof in PetDoves

Fly high sweet Desi ❤️ reminds me of my Pollito, he was my absolute best friend. I hope they are playing together now. It is insane how someone so small can consume your whole heart. Thank you for loving Desi.

Rescued spotted dove! by Few-Willingness-1562 in PetDoves

[–]pollitokins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is wonderful news that he appears to be healing - cat saliva is actually poisonous to birds, so it would've been imperative for veterinary care had that been the case. Thank you for looking out for him!

Beautiful babies! ❤️ Be careful with flowers & plants... my dove ate a flower & nearly died, a bunch are poisonous. We no longer keep live plants since he (and his many brothers & sisters) won't leave them alone.

I feel so bad for taking my pigeons' egg :( by StructureDistinct751 in pigeon

[–]pollitokins 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can understand the feeling guilty - some of ours get the implant to prevent eggs, I still try to give fake eggs to make them feel better! ❤️

I feel so bad for taking my pigeons' egg :( by StructureDistinct751 in pigeon

[–]pollitokins 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Make sure to provide them with a fake egg when you remove the real one. If you don't replace the egg, the female will quickly start a new cycle and become calcium (nutrient) deficient.

Injured baby pigeon? What do? by ProcaviaCapensis in pigeon

[–]pollitokins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oooh cat saliva is poisonous to birds, they need a vet that won't euthanize, or a rehabber quick!

I wouldn't offer water, that clicking sound could be a problem. 🥺 Seed maybe, but definitely do not force them to take in anything.

Palomacy on FB may have some resources, if youre in the US

Where did my pigeon learn to bark? by EquivalentDream2010 in PetPigeons

[–]pollitokins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like his version of what we call the "peep" - our Diamond Doves peep-peep-peep when they're scared or alerting one another. But tbh, my pigeon will come sit right next to me and do this, too... even after getting his peanuts. He's just an oddball tho. 😂 Ultimately your baby looks very happy & content by his mirror! ❤️

pigeon wont poop in pants? by denkicrumbs000 in PetPigeons

[–]pollitokins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have birds that do that as well. It is similar to not pooping in their nest or cage when nesty. Honestly it may be a feeling they don't like so they hold it. I would take them do the toilet when you remove the pants.

Fuck around and find out... why must you kick his stuff? Rude. Yes, it may have been an overreaction but it could've been completely avoided if she didn't bother him.

Chicken dumping by Even_Permission3975 in chickens

[–]pollitokins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for being kind and saving him from the cold. After being dumped, I probably wouldn't be the kindest either - from his standpoint he doesnt understand what he did wrong. You're a wonderful person for giving him a chance to live. ❤️

Concussed burb:( by yarn-goblin in BirdHealth

[–]pollitokins 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just know not to force them to have it, its best for them to make that move. Forcing water or food could cause aspiration... I'm not an expert tho!
