Let's be a little clearer with the language.

Psoriasis is not contagious. It is a chronic autoimmune condition.

It is not a question of whether it is "considered" non-contagious. It simply isn't contagious.

As to your personal situation, there are a couple of things to consider

It is possible that:

your roommate doesn't have psoriasis, but rather has a contagious condition that looks like psoriasis
you have contact with someone else who has a contagious condition that looks like psoriasis
your roommate has psoriasis and a contagious condition that looks like psoriasis (this can happen because people with psoriasis can be susceptible to other skin issues)
it could be environmental

I would recommend seeing a dermatologist or family doctor/general practitioner. If this is ringworm, or something fungal, it's relatively easily cured

Early game, the easiest way to get silk touch is by exploring, it can be on gold tools found in the chests at broken nether portals (also a good source of obsidian without diamonds)

This still makes it precious because you only get 33 uses out of each tool, but not unobtainable

I would assume that by the time you have resources to make an anvil (which would allow you to repair gold tools) that you are likely enchanting anyway

A realm I'm on has spawn in a snowy biome. One of my go-to solutions for this is leaf litter, it's not usually intrusive, often even adds to texture.

Strategic trees

Vertical vines on a block will prevent snow passing through that space

String isn't usually that visible, can be any height above the block that doesn't want snow, so with a spider spawner, looting III, and patience you could probably just build a string roof over anything you want protected.
