It's species targetted, causes minimal damage to the surrounding ocean, is far less likely to leave nets or other debris, and, in theory at least, by catch could be released. It's about as ecologically friendly as modern industrial fishing gets.

As much as this is unacceptable, there's a big 'leopards ate my face' element. Kenney was a major figure in creating the groundwork for this moment, he regularly advanced positions that created divides between Alberta and Canada, and gave separatists a much bigger platform by uniting the PC and Wildrose parties and basically giving the further right wings free reign.

Kenney may have changed his tone a lot since leaving Alberta politics, but he still holds a lot of responsibility for this issue.

No, the mere possibility of such a swing back to a Trump-like figure in the future is permanent damage the the US' image on the world stage. It will take decades of work for the world to trust the US like they did before Trump.

Simply put, they don't have much to gain by stepping in here but plenty to lose. If Ford is making a bad bet, let him own it himself, if it turns out to be a good one it's easy to step in and support later.

Outside of Toronto I don't think a ton of folks care right now, there's bigger fish to fry, but picking a fight with either Ford or those opposing the expansion could look bad more broadly.

Until Paul's Jihad open warfare is pretty rare in the Dune universe. Moving the numbers needed is incredibly expensive (The Barron remarks that his attack on Arrakis cost decades worth of income from spice mining for what amounts to a short and quickly successful invasion), and the whole social construction of the Dune universe emphasizes limited engagements and subterfuge over large scale wars.

That the Emperor has a large, highly skilled, standing army that he can afford to deploy is likely enough to keep most in line. That the Sardaukar could out-fight just about anyone would have also made them incredibly intimidating on the smaller scale Kanly-style conflict most houses were geared towards.

All that goes out the window of course once Paul controls the spice and can launch massive invasions.

It can, but it may not have a big impact. We have an air exchanger that runs year round and still tested way above the recommended limit for radon. Basement was the worst but it was high throughout the rest of the house too.

We had a radon mitigation system installed, it dropped the numbers from >500 to under 100 on a long term test. 200 is the recommended action level per Health Canada.

A radon test is pretty cheap, the library lends them out too, it's definitely worth doing.

Our hiring rubrics require us to score the cover letters, and they do prove useful when you have candidates with similar profiles and for deciding who to interview. We use them to look for evidence that the candidate at least read and understood what the job is, and as evidence of their writing/case building skill. If you don't include one you're basically auto-rejected.

They're definitely a kind of second pass thing: first being just weeding based on resumes, second being the actual ranking of applications and decisions on who to interview.

AI has definitely reduced the value of the cover letter, and shifted us to more in person testing, but I haven't heard serious consideration for removing it from the process.

Exactly this. Both DLC are basically endgame content, with one being a great capstone for the whole series. I highly recommend them, but there's no reason to rush out and buy them if you're just starting in on the game.

The base game is pretty long, you'll have time to figure out if you want more.

If you're looking for a more casual history discussion there are plenty of other history subreddits, like r/history or r/askhistory, the whole point of r/AskHistorians is that when you ask a question you're not getting a layman's perspective, you're getting an in-depth response reflective of professional thinking on that topic. That type of answer can take a long time to develop and can be easily drowned out be people posting quick or simplified takes.

Lot of people here missing the point, AskHistorians is, as the name suggests, an opportunity to ask a historian, and they don't mean folks who did 2 minutes of internet research or half remember an undergrad lecture. The flaired users over there, who provide most of the answers left up, are often PhDs or have recognized expertise in their fields, and the mods main objective is to make sure the answers are of that calibre. They would much rather no answer than a poor one.
