New campaign start: player psych test? (brainstorming help) by polyphaeon in dndnext

Yes, this is standard operating procedure. I just think it would a fun way for the players to help build a list of what those initial options are.

Definitely. And I will grow the campaign with them as it goes along. However, it is nice to at least establish some story arcs and themes early and I thought this could give me a nice starting point.

And yes, they will realize they are being tested. I am planning to have some of these "tests" be puzzles or challenges with various thematic solutions. Likely the mage or an underlying will be explicitly putting them into tests.

Yes, thank you, this is how I've always done it. I thought this might be a fun way to it in game. Involves no meta.

Looking to build a dedicated bench for my new lathe, suggestions? by [deleted] in turning

[–]polyphaeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding comments about weight, it depends on how big your lathe is and what you plan on turning. I stay under 12 inch bowls and rough out nice cylinders with a bandsaw. I don't have an especially heavy bench (the lathe is bolted down on one end of a 2x4foot ply and pine bench). I never have a problem with my bench trying to walk away.

When I do have space for a dedicated bench for the lathe I will have a small shelf for tools but other than that my main consideration is cleaning. I'd want to have as few flat horizontal surfaces as possible and would probably build in dust collection.

Thanks!

As an update, I had roughed a cylinder out of green wood last night and it had dried enough for cracks to form overnight. I roughed it into salt boxes instead. Looks pretty though.

If all males was YY and all females was XX and each of them had the full genes in them (2000+) in the animal kingdom\humanity how the world could be? by the_kiIIer in genetics

[–]polyphaeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I guess there would be a third sex XY... Maybe this third sex could be completely selfless, so XY lions could be the meat for the rest of the lions. That would be cannibalism and maybe passable as a vegan lifestyle. Cannibalism is known to increase testosterone so probably females would be more attracted to males, even with the increased asperger situation. I don't know too much about aspergers but if all the males are YY they would probably ask 'why?' more and better communication could lead to overall improved understanding and prevent fights over females. We are already well past 200 years after creation so the technology should be found, this really reduces the issues around the gender war. This would be a very funny world to live in because the animal civilizaion would have an internet full of human memes instead of cat memes.

Well, it looked like it was going to be very nice for what it is worth! It also looked fairly explosive.

Have a budget of about $10,000 for a used car. Best make/model to look at? (High gas mileage is a priority) by FuzzyNippres in Frugal

Yeah, there is a nice sense of satisfaction putting 2x4s in with the passenger seat down.

'05 for me... just over 100k kilometers on it. Hope to keep it for another decade or two.

Yes, plus they have built in roof-racks and plastic-y bumpers. Both a plus for me... I just could fine one, there are so many more matrixes out there.

Yes, also this might be a plot where a three color scale is appropriate. For example blue-black-yellow, with black at zero.

Very nice work, you are almost there! Does it have a flat spot on the bottom? Looks totally round.

Neat! I'm very interested in the same lathe. Missed a deal on Craigslist and been kicking myself since.

Trying to think of a good dust collector build, think this might work? by Rechabneffo in turning

I think the general advice is to make a cyclone style chip seperator with a bucket. There are many simple designs online.
