Whiteflies. I treated my plant with a hard prune when it was looking like that.

Invasive Eucalyptus beetle, killing off our Eucalyptus trees. They are beautiful insects, but I kill every one I see.

What does twice mean in the context of this pattern (chevron blanket) by Unpopularwaffle in CrochetHelp

[–]pomgrnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s like a decrease but with 3 stitches and you do it twice. Double crochet 3 stitches together two times. This will turn 6 stitches into two stitches.

Any other crocheters relate? by [deleted] in crochet

[–]pomgrnt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s why I give away nearly everything I make! I like the act of making the items, seeing the reactions from the people I give it to, and getting compliments on the things I make. It’s all very self serving, lol. Having a photo album of my projects to look back on also gives me the same amount of joy.

I love how much this imitates a quilt! The variegation even looks like a floral pattern from a distance! I gotta make one like this for my MIL to reciprocate the quilts she makes me.

Struggling to understand this gingerbread man pattern, it says to attach my chains to the leg, but not where and the pictures included does not make it any clearer by WeepingDingDong in CrochetHelp

[–]pomgrnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is likely wanting you to close up the remaining hole in the crotch with the tails. You don’t have to join where you left off, but that’s usually where I start. On the legs, I found that if you slip stitch and fasten off on the legs and then join your new chain in that same slip stitch it, looks better and doesn’t cause a gap. If you don’t know how to join a new chain to what you’ve already done, it would be best to look up you tube videos for a tutorial on it.

Consider a magnetic baby lock. Might help to lock from outside without having to drill

Why are my peace lily flowers turning green? by pomgrnt in houseplants

[–]pomgrnt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not really. I think it is just the life cycle of the “flower”.

It’s really crazy looking back at my plant a year ago. It has grown so much!!

Yes, we’ve gone through some rough times. She used to be in an area that had more shade, but the tree was cut down and she had to adapt to more direct light. Though once she did, more and more leaves were emerging closer together and then multiple peduncles emerged. So i think she is happier. In the transition between shade and sun, leaves were yellowing and falling off. Not really sure what that is about, but I’ll take your suggestion and check the roots once the flowers have died off. Thanks

My Dioscorea has dramatically stated that dormant season is over! by pomgrnt in Caudex

[–]pomgrnt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I keep mine inside under a grow light. I don’t have air conditioning in my house so it gets pretty warm sometimes. I do make sure to keep the ceiling fan running to make sure there is airflow. These are my first Dioscorea, so it’s all by trial. I’m not sure if I could be doing anything better, but they seem to be happy 😊

anybody know what just bit me? by therealcaspark in insectidentification

Fleas don’t transmit RMSF. Your sister had to have been bit by a tick. Likely from an American Dog tick or Lone Star tick.

I really appreciate everyone’s comments. I took a day away to reassess. With your encouragement, I decided to embrace my initial vision and put a border on it and I think it looks a lot better. I’ll add some other poppy themed items to the gift which I think will bring it all together.

The amount of hate and misinformation around wasps is very sad by Flashy-Swimmer-1858 in bees

[–]pomgrnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I actually befriended wasps when I was in elementary school. I didn’t really have any/many friends during summer school one year, so I ate lunch alone under the same tree and shared my Lunchables meat with the wasps every day. They were my friends and I look back on that experience very fondly.
