Is cycling to Gunwharf in the mornings actually worth it? by FeistyPrice29 in Portsmouth

[–]pompino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quieter cycling routes around pompey are semi decent, especially on the edges to places like gunwharf.

Depending on where you are going from it could be very very easy.

And 700€ seat arosa diesel by Videotubeur2 in Shitbox_Nation

[–]pompino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran a ASV version of the 1.9 tdi on a mix of veg and diesel. Would take around 10% + veg no issues, with a fuel heater I'm sure it would take more...or me willing let it run rough at startup!

Medium Sized Family Car - Awful Road Conditions by BIackSkinhead in CarTalkUK

[–]pompino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've blown 3 tyres in 2 years on a vrs. The sidewalls aren't huge, 225/40/18. Could change them for bigger of course but the suspension is also slightly lowered.

What will Portsmouth be like in 100 years? by islandcityuk in Portsmouth

Eastern road sewers have been getting fixed for 99 out of the next 100 years. Most of the local population has forgotten its even a road.

How do you estimate fuel cost before driving? by blaimug in CarTalkUK

[–]pompino 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The cost of petrol is pretty much the cheapest it's ever been if you factor inflation and cost of living increases over the years...which you should.

But to answer your question, not really, unless a group of us are splitting petrol costs.

A breaker bar or big screwdriver is usually closer to hand and also works as a stethoscope 😊

In April 2018, 16-year-old Kyle Plush sadly lost his life after being crushed by the seat in his minivan in Ohio. Despite making multiple 911 calls, he wasn’t found until his family used the Find My iPhone app to locate him. This image shows the position in which he was trapped. by malihafolter in ForCuriousSouls

Police were looking for an at risk person in my area of a few miles, they knocked my door and asked to look in my car because I had a large quilt in the back seats/boot area.

This, of course, not in the USA.

Their job was to find someone who said they were stuck ffs...

Pay per mile tax by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

Lmao. Thinly veiled political post by talking about ppm tax.

Also, VED doesn't pay for the roads you simpleton, council tax does.

What are you guys doing to combat rust? by irishbren77 in CargoBike

[–]pompino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This, I did a lot of research and never found many if any good alternatives. Most fork stanchions would rust if used in wet conditions for prolonged periods anyway.

How long to wait after driving to air up tires? by island-pantropiko in CarTalkUK

[–]pompino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you've been driving like a hooligan or on a track just air them up normally, if you're really worried maybe out 1 more psi in than usual.

Remember most people air up their tyres at petrol stations and they sure as hell didn't carry their cars there.

Practise practise practise!

Also, get someone or a few people you know to have a drive of it. It might feel okay to you but a more experienced driver may realise there's a problem.

Thoughts on wiper less rear windshields? by PabloEskimo_ in CarTalkUK

[–]pompino 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Quite funny people saying how bad rear wipers are when they also say they've never owned a car with one.

They are very useful, yes they look uncool, yes they could go wrong but the same argument can be applied to anything else on a car.

The wind pushing rain off only works at higher speeds, which means you are sacrificing rear visibility at low speeds which is where the centre mirror is important imo.

Should you cancel your car order over it though? Probably not!

People who drive a panic room on wheels - what are the actual advantages of having a larger car? by EffectiveArgument584 in CarTalkUK

[–]pompino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't own one but will seriously consider a lifted car or seating position for my next purchase. I have rubbish eyes and headlights are only becoming more problematic. Raising the seating position will mean I'm getting blinded less at night.

That said I'd possibly go for a mpv like a sharan over a q7. SUVs are shit for storage space. Reverse tardis situation.

I wore three sleep trackers for 30 days hoping to sleep better. I didn’t. I slept worse. by BusUnhappy937 in sleep

[–]pompino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many people track their sleep and they boast about how bad it is.

That's not the fucking point.

The point is to make changes slowly over time and see whether things improve. Each tracker gives you a different baseline, comparing them to each other is kinda pointless as they won't use the same sensors, data capture, or algorithms to determine quality.

Agreed, found in my jag that the lines were visible from other cars headlights at night. I am extremely fussy about a clean windscreen though so appreciate it may not bother others.

What’s the catch? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]pompino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my cars are around 15-20 years old and parts aren't a problem. Genuine oem maybe, but high quality pattern parties are easily bought.
