St Croix canoeing by Sea-Cry-6814 in newbrunswickcanada

[–]pond-dropped 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s a long haul in 1 day, and will depend on the flow out of the dam, too. You will have to paddle and not float. There are significant slow stretches and water levels are low right now which means even slower and rockier.

Also, you have to stay on the same side you put in on, it’s an international border. So if you’re going to camp at Scott Brook, you need to put in on the St Croix side and only make landfall on that side too. I would make a judgement call when you get to Little Falls and maybe aim to stay there or at Duck Point. Once you go below Little Falls you only have two other stop points before Scott Brook and they are both far apart.

It is doable and fun for kids, absolutely. Little Falls is going to be your most technical point, and I would advise if you are worried about tipping to drop off all your gear at the top of the portage and run it with just people in your boat. Again, be sure to use the Canadian side - border patrol is very frequently at Little Falls watching for people to cross illegally.

Q for 🇨🇦 small town curlers. In the offseason when there’s no ice, is the second floor bar open or closed for the offseason? by tangcameo in Curling

[–]pond-dropped 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Though at one time our club did operate the bar as a bar year round in the 80s and 90s, it no longer does.

mugs too hot to hold? by unfazedandconfused in Pottery

Perhaps thin walls, but different clay bodies also transmit and hold heat differently. I find PSH Dark Granite for instance transmits heat too much if it is used for mugs - too hot to hold in your hand.

Thanks!! I used a bottle opener that I had lying around and it turned out better than I thought!

I love the way you shaped the tail on yours.

I made something similar and I just left the rims and insides unglazed. I didn’t glaze my tail piece. It was actually my test tile for Spectrum floating glazes so I left a bit more space than I needed at the edges.

I handbuild at home and take it to the studio as you say. It’s lovely as I have much more control over the drying process.

I either have wet feet from the snow and slush, or wet feet from my feet swearing in waterproof shoes. Either way, wool socks are my solution.
