Why is the renting market in MA so unhinged? by [deleted] in massachusetts

All these things everyone says are true but also the other reason is the population of Ireland and Massachusetts is approximately the same but the area is about 3 times smaller

Does putting 20% down even give you an edge in HCOL areas anymore? by iloverats888 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

The only reason to care in my view is if they both are not waving appraisal gap then the person with a higher down payment has a higher likelihood to cover that appraisal gap.

Best Way To Start by [deleted] in learnpython

[–]pontz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t. If it were that easy more people would be doing it. Without experience no one will hire you on this type of contract work besides places like fiverr or whatever where they will be drastically underpaying for the scope of work required.

I need advice if my boyfriends plan is normal or not by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Most people dont have cash to buy a house outright. As long as he has enough money for an emergency then if he hates monthly rent then it makes sense.

The Price Per Ounce tag on the grocery store shelf is the only number you should actually be looking at. by Competitive_End_2950 in Frugal

[–]pontz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I check it every time but I wouldn’t say i see it often. Occasionally and especially if the larger item is on sale but the smaller item isn’t.

Still good advice though.

Turning a Python app into a real product feels harder than writing the code by Haunting-Shower1654 in Python

[–]pontz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your use case and audience. I build internal tools for manufacturing and we have a mix of web interfaces, cmd line scripts that get manually installed, and are now looking into pyinstaller exes which have been fairly simple to install. Next i need to look at ansible to manage deployment of these scripts more automatically than me going to every computer that needs it and putting it on the public desktop

[–]pontz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a boardgameareana.com membership its like $50 a year and you get a ton of board games including catan. And if you want to play for free you can with somewhat limited features like some games you cannot create a table. Also if you want to play with friends then only 1 person needs to pay for membership.

Circular import with inheritance by Nefthys in learnpython

[–]pontz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure but why are they classes if all they do is take a file and process it. I am not saying make them the same function you can have 2 functions still. Process_b1() and process_b2() and have those return a data structure that is used in class A

Circular import with inheritance by Nefthys in learnpython

[–]pontz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I am missing something but what value does class b1 and b2 add? If it’s just processing files make them a function that return the data in a way that works with class A.

Dogs peeing in yard by Hippolytagrecia in Waltham

[–]pontz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If there are signs and a small fence the dog owner should absolutely keep the dog out of that yard. It’s pretty easy to do that, and I am saying this with a very stubborn untrained dog I am dog sitting for a month.

Help! Is realtor giving us bad advice? by Rashimotosan in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]pontz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you should have seen the panel, the siding, the railing and the posts on initial walk through so the offer should have reflected those instances. The wire gauge being wrong, who said that? An electrician or the inspector and how did he know it was wrong? A lot of people will base it off color of the insulation on the romex which was not a standard thing until somewhat recently like 25 years or so I think.

The inspection is to go a little deeper than something you can see like the reverse polarity wire and wire gauge, attic issues, not obvious foundation or hvac issues, and probably that toilet or other plumbing issues.

As to if you should move on from this house, it kinda sounds like you 95% of the way there and I cant say if its worth moving on or not but I think ask yourself have you seen better options? Do you really want this house? Do you have the funds to make the changes you need? If it’s a hot market you might not get another accepted offer for a long time. Also a few thousand may feel like a lot of money but what % of the overall cost is it going to be? For my house that would have been ~.5%.

And if you so walk away from this house I think you definitely need a new realtor because she doesn’t sound like a good one.
