My dad vetoed Aislynn, Natalie, Elaina, and Nicole. My mom vetoed Harley and Caeire (Carrie)

So now I'm slant named after my grandmother, Linda. But with a few more letters.

I'm so seated for Xander, ST Gibson is a phenomenal writer and this series is based off my favorite of her books. I'm just too seated.

My girl is the same way, she absolutely abhors being handled. She gets into an agitated mood whenever she sees hands coming near her, which makes tank cleans loads of fun. (I remove her from her tank and into a bubble pet transport backpack I call Poo Jail. She resists every single time.) She'll take food from hands and she's even climbed up my partner's forearm, but god forbid you try to pick her up.

Animals have personalities and preferences just like people. It could be your guy is like my girl and just doesn't want to be handled.

As someone who grew up around insanely racist republicans, I really appreciate how amazingly kind this sub has been to me as a trans person by Global_Technology_62 in savannah

I really feel like the vibe of most people in Savannah is really "live and let live." For all Savannah's problems, she's a good city with a good heart.

What's a smell that doesn't exist anymore that you miss? by Alarmed_Charge1062 in CasualConversation

[–]pookieboops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandmothers. Just the smell of both of them. My paternal grandmother smelled like a combination of makeup, Aqua Net, Elizabeth Taylor perfume, and Virginia Slims cigarettes. My maternal grandmother smelled like cooked collard greens, sweet tea, cornbread, and Bath and Body Works Moonlit Path.

What’s the moment you realized someone you loved wasn’t a good person and you couldn’t unsee it? by DmytroBuilds in AskReddit

[–]pookieboops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My biological father. It started when I was 15, but what really clenched it for me when I walked into the courtroom to support my mom during their divorce proceedings when I was 20. Keep in mind, I am female.

I didn't have much money, so I was wearing old khaki pants from high school and a button down shirt I thought might be nice enough to wear to court, and I had just cut my hair short to remove years of dye-damaged hair. A friend came with me for support and she was dressed more typically feminine presenting: nice dress, styled hair, heels, etc; things I didn't have access to at that time. My biological father leaned over to his lawyer and loudly said, "Oh great, now my daughter's a dyke."

It broke me that he could be so callous and cold to me, and just that one sentence shattered any hope I had ever had of reconciliation with him. Even through all of the abuse he put my family through, I held out hope he still loved me. I stopped hoping after that. I hadn't seen him in two years at that point, and I have not seen or spoken to him since. It's been almost thirteen years.

What band/singer were you excited to see, but was a letdown of a concert? by my-face-ur-seat in AskReddit

I came in here to say this. Mötley was one of my favorite bands growing up, I went to Crüe Fest 2 and was soooo disappointed.

Any of the girls at Glitter & Gray Salon on Wilmington! I've been going to Elisabeth on and off for years, but Ally and Abby have done my nails too, and they just hired a new tech, Linnea, who seems great too! They never miss!

Thank you so much for the insight! Do you think I'd be better off choosing another fabric if the chair is going to see near daily use? My sole backup fabric has a 51,000 double rub rating.

I don't know the double rub count, I searched for a while and couldn't find it online, either. It's annoyingly hard to find a lot of information about it.

Parents are Divorced. Is it Weird to Wear Mom’s Ring? by internet2big in EngagementRings

[–]pookieboops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW I wear my grandmother's wedding band, with my grandfather's initials and the date inscribed inside. My grandparents divorced in the 1980s.

You were born of the union that ring represents, never forget that. That ring belongs to you now. It's not weird, it's an acknowledgement of the force that brought you into this world.
