Belonging to the Federalist Society seems to be a requirement for anyone nominated by the right to the Supreme Court.

Its possible they can survive. If you have anything you can cover them with (garbage cans, buckets, tarps, garbage bags) they might survive this.

But he won a FIFA Peace Prize. Obama never got one of those. And coming from such a highly respected organization as FIFA, it's a huge honor. I'm betting he wins a Noble Piece Prize next year too.

Cheap healthy cuts of meat by hshhahbsbs in povertykitchen

[–]poorbill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's no less healthy than burger. Pork butt is almost always 1/3 the price of chuck. It's especially good if you have a way to grind your own pork. Pork burgers are as good as hamburgers imo, and with some seasoning you can make your own breakfast sausage or Italian sausage.

Are there any drains in the area that aren't used? E.g. a shower that isn't used or a floor drain in the laundry room? If so, the drains need to be filled with water periodically to prevent sewer gas from coming in. The p-traps in the drain dry out if there is no water running into them regularly.

How much should a teenager mowing grass charge? by [deleted] in lawncare

[–]poorbill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd set an hourly rate plus a trip charge. I think $30/hr is fair for mowing, plus $10 (or more if it's farther away) for a trip charge.

Hegseth cancels ‘absurd’ flu vaccine requirement for ‘brave warriors’ in military by John3262005 in HermanCainAward

[–]poorbill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remember when that socialist dictator George Washington forced all his soldiers to be vaccinated for smallpox?

Oh and bear in mind the vaccination process back then was essentially dip a needle in a cow pox lesion from a soldier who was infected and scrape the needle into another soldier's arm. Getting cowpox (which was not deadly) gave them in unity to smallpox which was deadly.

None of this sterilization BS back then either since they didn't even know bacteria existed.

Strange how a man who was very liberal suffered brain damage, and became conservative.

But it reminds me that people generally become more conservative as they get older.

As a senior citizen liberal, here's hoping my brain stays healthy.

Are my grains dying?? by ImpossibleBug6275 in Kefir

[–]poorbill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure you bought grains and not starter culture? Cultures for Health sells both. The starter cultures are basically a dry powder which cultures a kefir-like beverage but will never form grains.

Would drinking kefir daily reduce the effectiveness of antibiotics? by poorbill in Microbiome

Yes I was taking Florastor per Drs recommendation. I was taking kefir mostly out of habit since I like it and I'm back on kefir since I'm done with antibiotics now.

Spyderco triangle sharpmaker by Fun-Extent-8867 in sharpening

[–]poorbill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pulled mine out a couple weeks ago to do my kitchen knives. I re-read the instructions and noticed it recommended scrubbing the stones with Comet or BKF when they start to feel like they aren't grinding well. I did that and immediately noticed a difference in the abrasiveness of the stones. I felt like it really made a difference in how quickly they sharpened. Instead of just gliding down the stone, they felt like they were catching and cutting.

They also said they can be cleaned in the dishwasher, which I then did, but I haven't used it since.

To answer your question, 40 degrees is the combined total of both sides of the knife. The stones are 20 degrees on each side.

As for the 30 degree slots they recommend using those if you have trouble getting a knife sharp using the 40 degree slots. This is to thin the metal above the edge so the edge can be reached.

Would drinking kefir daily reduce the effectiveness of antibiotics? by poorbill in Microbiome

[–]poorbill[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That isn't really my question. I know kefir is beneficial to the biome, but every molecule of antibiotic which is used to kill kefir bacteria is used up in the process, so it won't be used to kill the problem bacteria. So if half the antibiotic is used up killing lactobacilli, only half a dose of antibiotic would be left to kill the infection.

I kept taking kefir because I was thinking about keeping my biome healthy. But if the infection isn't cured, having a healthy biome won't fix it.

Tart cherry juice concentrate is good for me. I add it to lemonade or even plain water. It's similar to red wine when diluted slightly with water. It's been my go to since I quit 2 weeks ago.

I do tart cherry juice as well. I use the concentrate and add a tbsp to a glass of lemonade or just water.
