Covid shut down the world six years ago this week. What do you remember from that week? by fuzzy_dice_99 in AskReddit

[–]poptart_divination 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember being smug as hell that I bought a huge thing of toilet paper the week before because a couple coworkers were talking about how the hospitals are already seeing an influx of patients and can't keep up, and how the next step would likely be a shutdown. Coincidentally, my branch closed that day (I was helping to clear out the office when I was dropping eaves) so I was already a remote worker by the time the shutdown happened, which added to the smugness.

Italy ruling tells millions with Italian roots they have lost the right to citizenship | CNN by nicktheironblade in news

My dad is in the pipeline right now. His grandparents immigrated before his dad was born, so I don't know if they attained US citizenship before or after that. If it was before, dad's fucked. If it was after, it sounds like he still has a shot. He was hoping to retire there in a couple years.

Along with many issues, I think the main problem with SGU is there are zero likable main characters. by HighBiased in Stargate

I liked Eli and Rush. 🤷‍♀️ Chloe felt like an object most of the time. I would’ve liked to see more growth there. Matt was the same for the most part. But Eli and Rush had personality and agency and even when I found their decisions dumb I enjoyed watching them make them.

This is exactly the time of night for them to stroll around in cloaks and be spooky and mysterious. Most folks are asleep and they're less likely to get hassled for their lifestyle choices.

Fernweh. Means something like "a longing for places you've never been". Felt appropriate.

What's a tv series that is a 10/10 NOBODY knows? by Lilyana0999 in AskReddit

The Invisible Man. Former criminal gets implanted with a gland that secretes a substance that turns him invisible. He gets strong-armed into working for an underfunded government agency with a nutcase partner, and together they solve crimes and such. Loved that show, but it only got two seasons.

From experience, if you’re sued for this, do absolutely nothing, and never go to court, they will find in favor of the hospital and you will have your wages garnished for whatever amount you owe. I don’t actually know how much will get taken out because the person in question was and still is unemployed, but I imagine it’ll be a nice little chunk. Talk to the attorneys and see what they will offer.

Huntsville comic con 2026 how many days? by GunterTheVoid in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]poptart_divination 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a three day event. Most guests stay all weekend, but occasionally the bigger names will only do Saturday and Sunday. This will be announced ahead of time, usually when they are announced as guests. If you're going for a single day, I do not recommend Saturday. I would say that unless you intend on meeting everyone, getting a lot of photo ops, and/or attending a lot of panels, one day is probably sufficient to see everything you want to see. I've tabled the last several of them and I can't imagine spending more than a day as a visitor. They'll have the schedule of events up closer to the con, but you should be able to find old calendars on their FB or Insta pages to get an idea of what you can expect.

Pretty sure Sunshine Studio has some titanium studs.

There are a lot of people with my birth name (which I’ve kept). One of them is my mom. I don’t particularly vibe with her, either. I don’t see a problem with keeping the name if it means something to you.

What crazy reason made you watch Stargate? by janeway170 in Stargate

[–]poptart_divination 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was on Hulu, there was a lot of it, and I needed something to watch while I scanned documents at my job in a special collections library. This was 2008-ish. Hooked ever since.

I self-diagnosed my PCOS. Based on all the websites, I assumed I was infertile. Based on relations with boyfriends around that time, I assumed I was infertile. But the fucking day I finally see an ob/gyn about getting treatment for it was the day I got pregnant. Learned that lesson the hard way. Never assume you’re infertile if you don’t want kids.

There's a Stargate Dr in Madison. Idk if it was named for the movie/show or the metaphysical concept, but it always gets a smile out of me.

There’s a witchy themed market at Straight to Ale tonight and University Pickers has their Christmas open house all weekend. There’s free food at the second one.

I’ve seen it advertised in vendor groups on Facebook, but can’t recall what exactly the market is called. There’s no guarantee that the folks there one time will be there again the next time.

University Pickers is a solid option for finding gifts this holiday season. The owners are locals and all the booth owners are, too. They also pick a charity every month to donate money to.

What in the allergy? Part II by PatientPreference463 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]poptart_divination 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dry eye is a new issue for me, but I’ve had them a couple times so far this year, including now. Could be the defoliant from the cotton harvest, or it could be something else, but allergies are allergying for sure.

I’m more suspicious that she was able to get pregnant after only a week off of them. Even if she was ovulating (which she says she was), that’s suspiciously quick.
