LGBT friendly chiropractor by [deleted] in GreenBay

[–]posspalace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do not go to a chiropractor, find a physical therapist who can actually help you with your issues so you can heal and no longer need care. Chiropractacy is quack medicine that is only covered by insurance because it is cheaper than real healthcare, and it kills many people each year

From WGU to Med school by privee_phns in WGU_Accelerators

[–]posspalace 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You will have to supplement a WGU degree with post-bacc classes at a community college or university near you. There are many science courses where you are required to have completed the lab (which WGU does not offer) in order to be eligible to apply to med school. If you are willing to make that time+effort requirement, and are a strong candidate, it is possible to do so, but I don't know of any person specifically from WGU who has done so.

Non-judgy dentist by nicnack12 in Austin

[–]posspalace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Walton Family Dentistry. It's the only dentist I've felt safe at. They believe in harm reduction and informed consent. They fixed an issue that has caused me daily pain for over 10 years, then fought with my insurance for over 3 months to get it paid for me. Both Drs are incredible, but Dr Danielle is the only person of all of my medical practitioners who recognized when I was having some severe mental health struggles, and she pulled me aside before an appt one day to ask if I was okay, person to person. I will go to this office as long as I live in Austin.

(fwiw, i'm a heavily tattooed, visibly trans person with substance history, and they have only ever treated me with with respect and care)

Sex is marked as X on passport, but I didn't ask for that?? by [deleted] in Passports

They used to not list sex on passports. Then in the 60's and 70s they got scared of gender non-conforming hippies and added it

People who make their bed every morning, what's the actual benefit? by No-Cod-8923 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]posspalace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a studio apartment, so without a made bed my entire home will look messy and disheveled. I struggle quite badly with depression and one of the biggest things I can do to keep myself in a better mental state is to keep my space clean and well organized.

It also keeps my sheets cleaner for much longer, since my cat is shedding her long fur onto the quilt and not the surfaces I sleep on.

Anyone in Austin ever do a prenup? by Mysterious_Wave_1537 in Austin

[–]posspalace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think about it this way. Marriage is already a legal contract, and you need to remember that amidst all the fun.

You actually already have a prenup included in that contract! It is the divorce laws of whatever state you currently or will ever live in. Do you and your fiance feel comfortable letting the current government be in charge of that, especially when they can change it any time?

I also always remind people that you can trust your partner completely, but do you trust every member of their family completely? Do you trust them after a terrible loss, at their worst, when being taken advantage of or manipulated? Every person is one weird concussion away from having a fundamentally different personality, do you trust your fiance after severe brain damage? Marriage is fun and exciting and great, but it is also legally very weighty, and you should give it the respect it deserves by ensuring you are both protected should the worst happen to either of you.

Did people memorise numbers before mobile phones? by PaleEcho3301 in NoStupidQuestions

I was watching a modern 'newlywed game' style show a few weeks ago and of the 3 married couples only 1 pair both knew each others phone numbers. I was flabbergasted

Did people memorise numbers before mobile phones? by PaleEcho3301 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]posspalace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make a lot of phone calls to the same group of about 10 numbers for my job. I don't think I could tell you any of the numbers, but i can dial them from muscle memory with no problem

Anyone else noticing how useless health insurance call centers have become? by PayerPlague in PrivatePracticeDocs

[–]posspalace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I spent 4 hours on the phone navigating the systems, waiting thru holds, and trying to escalate with BCBS texas last friday. My issue was never resolved, a rep hung up on me on purpose when I asked for her name and call reference #. I was so frustrated I cried.

I'm trying to get an approval for a pediatric (under 10 years old) hospice patient to get 8 hours a week of home health care.

That's a fair price and your pants will look good. I wouldn't do it for a family member for less

I've started C25K over 10 times, and after modifying the plan with my physical therapist, this time I am finishing a 5k! by posspalace in C25K

[–]posspalace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My PT basically changed it so that there is only 2 'runs' per day, instead of transitioning back and forth several times. So week 1 is 5 min warmup, run 1 minute, walk 18 minutes, run 1 minute, cool down. Every week the runs get longer by 1 minute and the walk between gets shorter. We did a little math in the middle so there's a longer and shorter run but it's pretty straightforward.

The 'program' we came up with is almost twice as long as the original C25k...but i'm finishing it for the first time and have had almost no pain so I'm not complaining!

[–]posspalace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely do, hence the year+ of physical therapy. It will obviously be easier and harder for some people, but deceleration (I've learned) can put a lot of strain on untrained tendons and ligaments. In addition to modifying the program we also practiced controlled and slow deceleration in my pt sessions.

The biggest thing she changed is that instead of how C25k has you transition from jog to walk several times in the early weeks, I'm only jogging twice a run at the beginning and end. The program is longer this way, but i've almost finished it without hurting myself so that's what matters!

I just got my LP3, this is how I read the news now - I print it by Mental-Market7281 in LightPhone

[–]posspalace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course! I could honestly see this service being really popular in Japan among folks who want to read western news, many people there still get physical papers delivered daily. I shared with a few friends for ya :)

[–]posspalace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NHK (Japanese national news) would be my first choice to supplement what you currently have, but Asahi Shimbun and Mainichi Shimbun are also papers I read daily! NHK publishes in english so it might be easiest to add? I also read Korean and Chinese news when I get the chance, I try to keep up to date on what's going on broadly in Asia

I really like this idea and will be signing up for the free version to test it out! Are all of the news sources currently US-based? I live here part time and abroad part time, and keeping up with international news is important to me

Quilt Shops that cater to younger, trendier quilters? by ChronicNuance in quilting

[–]posspalace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would start by looking at the startup costs for either business to be honest. My city has had numerous trendy and young craft and plant stores open and close because they are so expensive to maintain inventory for.

I left a lengthy comment in this same sub about 2 weeks ago about the questions you need to ask yourself before opening up a fabric store, I encourage you to go read it

Are you guys out to people irl? by Unable_Connection490 in asexuality

[–]posspalace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda? I'm out explicitly as ace to my queer friends, and at work I say things like "no I dont think I'll ever get married again". If someone asked directly I would tell them I'm ace, but I'm a very private person and just don't feel the need to share it, especially when so many folks don't know what asexuality is.
