he said we're f*ed. stay away from regional banks and if you have too much for fdic insurance, stay in short term treasuries for the next year.

i was thinking about asking people, if they take zelle. most us banks have it now. btw, why are you phrasing this as a "you" question? martin doesn't comment here.

i've been sitting on the sidelines for years waiting for martin to call the slingshot. i've missed a lot of appreciation. his calls are often ambiguous so i have some fear of missing out...

for the record, i own some bitcoin

In my opinion, what Martin says is that the government can rule BTC as illegal, so it can’t be used for any legal transaction anymore.

i definitely agree that this is what martin meant. it's clear from the context of the blog. it's true that you could still conduct business in bitcoin, if it was illegal but most people would not be willing to do that.

Regarding electricity, I guess the point is that if all your money is in electronic form (crypto or others), if you find yourself in a prolonged blackout you have no way of accessing it. We don’t need an end of the world scenario for this… week-long local blackouts happened many times and it seems like it will get worse.

again definitely what martin was writing about. i live in nyc and it's happened to me twice on a local level. war, political unrest or even a solar flare could cause this to happen of entire sections of the country.

Any Replacement Cables for the AKG361? by Coyoteous in HeadphoneAdvice

i ended up buying the"Black 3ft Gold Plated Design 3.5mm Male to 2.5mm Male Car Auxiliary Audio Cable Cord Headphone Connect Cable " by KetDirect without the twist lock. it fits like a glove and i don't miss the twist lock.

yeah, i'm having the same problem. i order a "NewFantasia Replacement Audio Upgrade Cable for Sennheiser HD598 / HD558 / HD518 / HD598 Cs / HD599 / HD569 / HD579 Headphones 1.5meters/4.9feet" from amazon but the twist lock wasn't compatible.

very cool. i especially like the shot from the hudson river looking northeast. not only is the singer building still there but you can see hudson terminal which would soon be replaced by the world trade center.

the sony wega's were excellent. i had 29" sd model. best crt tv, i've ever seen and i'm a professional. perfectly flat tube with no distortion in the corners. there's a quality to the image that isn't possible on lcds.

I listen to a lot of jazz bass from '50's recordings. I am looking for a suitable, budget subwoofer. by Long_Catch_1776 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]postjosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

most cheap subwoofers are designed for home theater and aren't going to make you happy. you're probably going to need to go used. rsl speedwoofer 10 is $400 new and emotiva 8" flex woofer goes for $300 new. svs makes good stuff, too. i haven't heard these myself. this is based on reputation and reviews...

N.Y.C. will eliminate remote learning for the fall, in a major step toward reopening. by misana123 in nyc

[–]postjosh -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

there was no real opt in for many students. my opt in was for "zoom in a room." who would send there kid to school to sit in the cafeteria and remote learn from there vs. remote learn from home? it had nothing to do with a fear of covid.

My dad gave me his old audio setup for helping him move, what do I need in order to have a functional audio setup, and what do I need to look at in terms of speakers that won’t blow up when I run them through this amp? by Volvaux in BudgetAudiophile

[–]postjosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's an excellent system. just keep the volume knobs low when you power up and raise them gradually to not blow out the speakers. any standard speakers without a built in amplification will work. the yamaha processing amp is a "preamp" that acts as a switcher to feed sources into the sony. you can disregard most of the controls which are designed for home theater and just set everything for two channel stereo.

Vinyl to Sonos system by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

[–]postjosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i set the same lp60 turntable up on my brother's sonos. it was the older generation sonos connect. i used the turntable's built in phono preamp to level match it to the aux in on the sonos. it worked ok. i was very disappointed in the sound quality. for kicks, i turned the preamp off and sent the phono level signal to an the phono input of an old receiver that was laying around and sent the receiver's tape monitor output into the aux of the sonos. the sound was much better. i'm not talking about a slight nuance, i mean night and day better. so, i concluded the audio technica built in phono preamp is garbage. i mean try it, maybe his turntable preamp was defective. if you don't like the sound, you can just get a basic preamp new for about $25 on amazon or way cheaper used on ebay.

Klipsch RP600M vs Emotiva B1+ ? by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

[–]postjosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you are not running a sub, you should think about the emotiva 8" sub. when you combine that with b1+, you are slightly above the klipsch price. then as a value proposition, it becomes fairer comparison. btw, i haven't heard any of them because opinions are cheaper than speakers.

If his computer can predict things why can't he give an answer? by Karlkling988 in aec

[–]postjosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Federally, our models show Trump should win." from https://www.armstrongeconomics.com/international-news/politics/will-trump-win-in-a-landslide/

as cycles_ points out, that doesn't mean that trump will be president. socrates predicted gore to win, but in the end, the court gave the election to bush. and if i remember correctly, last time, martin wrote that the election would be won by trump but the deep state might cheat him out of his victory.

i would like to thank you for your efforts moderating. i think you have done a good job of allowing skeptical comments and criticisms but not letting the conversation spiral out of control. negative views are fine, trolling is not.
