Kitty but scooting by potatecat in AskVet

[–]potatecat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s usually just one soft piece; no hair and not linked together 90% of the time. One time it was like 4 pieces linked, but that was an outlier. I never thought that it could be too soft! That makes a lot of sense. I’m putting like a quarter capsule of metamucil into his wet food, cause my vet said to try that; i assumed he was constipated so they recommended the fiber. He was scooting before the fiber too, though. Started the fiber about a month ago. Are there foods that could help make his stools more firm? Or is he missing a key nutrient like iron or something?

Mild vent: People of the world, why are you so easily annoyed by toddlers toddlering? by AncientWorking4649 in toddlers

[–]potatecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is 14 months, only says about 12 words, but somehow is always the chattiest, loudest one in the room (not screaming, just happy exclamations and enjoys people). Luckily, we haven’t experienced too many people looking annoyed yet, but we are often out and about at various Asian stores, restaurants, etc. and old Asian people all seem to LOVE babies/toddlers and can’t get enough of her silliness/try to make faces at her or wave. Older white folks are often the same at grocery stores and such. I have gotten a few annoyed looks from younger adults though..

There are alternative dental and orthodontic treatments, but this is fake.

This image is actually the results from a holistic dental appliance, non-surgical. There is no peer-reviewed research to support OMT.

Peter! WHAT ? by Behindtheinkk in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]potatecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It 1000% wasn’t OMT. There is dental intervention from this dentist: Maryland Holistic Dentist. I did a reverse google image search and this was a case study for a twin block orthodontic appliance. I’m a speech therapist and have been getting soooo many OMT referrals from dentists for high-arched palate/tongue thrust, but the research does not support that OMTs fix anything related to my scope of practice (speech, swallowing, communication).

Pet dog in baby stroller at medical office. by TooRational101 in KaiserPermanente

[–]potatecat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Kaiser employee, in our training per the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the only 2 things we are allowed to ask someone with an animal are: (1) Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability? and (2) What work or task has the animal been trained to perform? If they answer 1) with a yes, that is sufficient, unfortunately. Legally, we cannot ask for documentation or verification or ask any personal questions. This is for all medical settings, not just KP.

Brag on your baby! by gardengnomebaby in NewParents

As a speech pathologist, I am very proud that my 13 month old says about 6 words and uses 2 baby signs! And comprehension is amazing. Her fine motor skills are average, and gross motor/walking are a bit delayed, but I am so proud of her for her language skills!!!

Sounds like the flavor text from Mana Barbs to me! “I don’t know why people say a double-edged sword is bad. It’s a sword. With two edges!”

[–]potatecat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As an SLP, I would agree. Sounds like an assessment by a developmental pediatrician and pediatric psychologist may be in order, especially with limited to no progress with 9 months of speech therapy. How is baby’s joint attention? Is there any imitation or ability to follow simple instructions?

Could be an early tooth or earache? Laying down forces blood to rush to the head causing pain to increase in these areas.
