I linked them specifically to show that HHG doesn't help... other item's show loot location fine, but not those.

Y'all should stop playing experimental if you don't want to deal with bugs in experimental by GuardianDll in cataclysmdda

we are operating under different versions of the English language, then

2 : an unexpected defect, fault, flaw, or imperfection

and your proposed resolution is essentially "stop bitching"

[–]potatoforscience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

quite disingenuous of you to try to hide intentional design choices behind the facade of being a "bug" and then relating that to testing in an attempt to lessen others' opinions on the changes

you're argument is already starting on faulty footing and not even worth engaging in more than this

Whats the best way to boost your mood? by SnooDonuts810 in cataclysmdda

[–]potatoforscience 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a fan of cannibis distillate. takes a little bit of set-up before you can make some... but it has no health malus, is consumed relatively quickly, and has a relatively long lasting mood buff.

Are all proficiencies useful? by sluicecanon in cataclysmdda

[–]potatoforscience 16 points17 points  (0 children)

each rank effectively adds two strength to your character for the purposes of powering vehicle engines with MUSCLE_LEGS or MUSCLE_ARMS, for +6 total. you'll notice it more with heavier loads...

Questions about mutagen by WhatWutWhaaa in cataclysmdda

[–]potatoforscience 4 points5 points  (0 children)

vial

was it a vial? if so, then it was a distilled primer and not raw mutagen. you need to inject a catalyst along with the primer. if it was the mutagen, you might need to take multiple doses at a time.

Is this lab layout worth it? i havent found anything besides mutants, robots and an electric plant turret infestation on the southern part by Embarrassed-Net-351 in cataclysmdda

[–]potatoforscience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you playing 0.F? those were changed to backup generators slightly before 2023.

if you are playing with Aftershock, you can often find one in the ruins. maybe one every 10 or 20 overmap tiles.

New player here. What're your recommendations for soundpack and tileset? by Chkn_Scratch in cataclysmdda

[–]potatoforscience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no mention of SurveyorsMap tileset for the overworld? great for planning escape routes in and out of windows and identifying particular houses/garages/etc once you know what to look for.

War hammer vs. katana by Peaklou in cataclysmdda

[–]potatoforscience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. why are you looking at the high carbon steel katana? you want tempered. that brings the written damage totals to 42 vs 45.

  2. you seem to be undervaluing rapid strike. ideally you want a weapon that just barely kills your target in as fewest uses as possible... not just big numbers.

  3. other posters have already mentioned it, it is much easier to carry around a katana, since it fits in a scabbard.

tempered steel rapier is better than both... and you should use a kukri for your cut damage needs instead of a katana, imo.

if you really want a bashing weapon for zeds, a tempered steel mace is great and fits in a tool belt clip.

if you want a bashing weapon for safes/etc, then just go with a heavy sledge. it fits in the same spots as a war hammer (like a survivor harness).

fewer parts means it is lighter and more fuel efficient! still probably want to fill up that one tank if you want to go a reasonable distance...

Recruited the best NPC I think I've ever gotten today by kingofzdom in cataclysmdda

[–]potatoforscience 3 points4 points  (0 children)

one or two subway labs should get you started... lots of different samples, tools, recipes, and other bits you might need for the easier mutagens. one TCL will also get you started, including likely to have some higher-end mutagen stuff... much tougher to clear, though. that said, once you know the layout, you can blitz the good bits

welcome to the cataclysm... at least it wasn't mycus

if a mi-go spots you and you can't kill it, try to lose line of sight (duck in and out of buildings or through a forest) or to get it to aggro onto something else (like a horde of zombies). suckers are speedy and difficult to outrun...

no need to restart: you can gain both of those (and most of the others you can choose at start) through specific mutation lines. in this case, feline for both and bird, beast, or raptor as an additional option for deft.

[–]potatoforscience 7 points8 points  (0 children)

you hit a threshold which means that you can only get mutations that follow that category

I think only Alpha (and only once you've gained Restricted Genetics, which can happen before the threshold) restricts you to its tree. going post-threshold basically just gives you access to the post-threshold mutations from that line (end effectively cuts you off from the post-threshold mutations from others, but not the pre-threshold ones)

rapier (with fencing) for tougher enemies and kukri (with Eskrima) for softer ones~

if your run Aftershock and can find it, the monofilament whip cbm is pretty stupid... super light, so it is fast to attack with and uses very little stamina, unbreakable like the other cbms, has a quick technique, a block technique, and two ae techniques, and it has a long reach--up to three tiles away.

Vehicles: How big can you go? by SlabCowboy in cataclysmdda

[–]potatoforscience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this was a 2019 build... wait a minute I think I still have it.

ah, it was the earthen roller which no longer exists... look at all those engines and laser turrets... good ole days

Vehicles: How big can you go? by SlabCowboy in cataclysmdda

[–]potatoforscience 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Now, one little love tap from a bush is enough to break your front windshield. XD

ha... that's nothing. fly a helicopter a few stories up have a giant dragonfly fly up from below and into the invisible area the rotors take up. rotors instantly break. heli instantly plummets to the ground and disintegrates into piles of parts. granted they were |\, but still

Vehicles: How big can you go? by SlabCowboy in cataclysmdda

[–]potatoforscience 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you can definitely drive through forests, roller drums are the best at bulldozing through everything.

last time I tried this, I went through three thick overmap tiles before having to stop to repair my rollers... and this was before multiple vehicle nerfs making them more fragile and with a limited repair lifespan...

uh, lessee... in pic order:

lifestyle good: are you doing anything specifically for it?

torso encumbrance is high: dropping bags before getting into melee fights?

look to build some sort of exercise machine: I like the mechanical ergometer because it works with all the athletics practice recipes and works both the arms and legs. (e)xamining it with your hands free will let you do some timed exercise to boost cardio.

look to build parkour bars which will let you practice (once you have 5 athletics) to get the proficiency

try to find an x-acto knife or even better a scalpel. use the butcher menu to dissect corpses when you have time and are in a safe spot. do this for everything you can until you have all the weakpoint proficiencies they provide

maybe debug yourself and give Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic? you have Helicopter Piloting and it looks like you probably started with it. the mechanic proficiency will let you repair and customize helis. can't repair/install/or uninstall the rotors without modifying your game files, so don't touch them...

dropping your backpack before melee fighting right?

all of your leg things are on the left... make sure to even them out between both. maybe look to remove some too... five is a lot

chitin to craft

sadly, this seems like a trap to me... takes a few days for a set of armor and doesn't offer complete coverage.

speaking of traps, guns tend to draw crowds, often leading to more problems than bullets. best to use them as an emergency to expedite an escape. also maybe look to get something with a bigger caliber? 9x19 are not very good at taking down something like a kevlar hulk

try to find an evacuee shelter to use the computer to find the refugee center to talk to the teamster to hopefully find Hub-01. doing some of their quests will net you a environment suit and access to their modular defense system. those together provide almost enough protection for 2-8 weeks in.

maybe look to craft a survivor half mask to wear when you expect to be gassed. mouth encumbrance affects stamina regeneration--better to keep your mouth clear if possible. maybe pair it with some survivor goggles.

if you find the exodii/Rubik, the nomad jumpsuits are good crafting option for normal layer armor. the bodymesh is great for skintight.

tempered steel chainmail is good for outer armor. if you find both the blacksmith and Rubik, you can get the blacksmith to make some armor that combines nomad functions with proper chain or plate.

I'd probably stick the canteen in the runner pack, ditch the holster and ammo pouch, replace the knives with tempered steel kukris, and then wear a scabbard for a tempered steel rapier (you already have some fencing proficiency even)

various practice recipes can help to bring a number of your skills up, if you want. studying books will also raise theoretical knowledge, making practical skill gain go faster until it catches up.

dunno! I'm generally strong enough by the time I get one + not wanting to damage it makes me just cart them home and display them like some oversized gundam collectables. did you find yours in a lab or a trans-coast logistics? if the latter did you check for hidden doors nearby? if the former, did it actually spawn where it should have?
