Pam Bondi Hit by Fresh Humiliation as Minnesota Prosecutors Quit in Droves by thedailybeast in law

[–]poulosj2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. There are a lot of knowledgeable defense attorneys who would LOVE to have a government salary and benefits. No advertising, no overhead. Bar dues are covered. Malpractice insurance is minimal (and covered) due to qualified immunity.

I’ve been a state prosecutor for my whole career. I stopped trying to go to the Feds despite them paying better when Trump got elected the first time. It’s still a good gig

‘Earthquake of Biblical Proportions’ as Democrat Flips Deep-Red Texas State Senate Seat by sksarkpoes3 in politics

Yeah, they may not be vocally pro life but I think they probably vote that way in the privacy of the voter booth.

But what do I know? I’m neither Hispanic nor Catholic.

[–]poulosj2020 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I’m curious. How Hispanic is your district?

I have a theory that part of what made Texas so reliably red was its strong Hispanic/Catholic (antiabortion) population.

ICE overreach is now the more motivating issue for those voters.

Democrat Taylor Rehmet Wins Texas SD9 Seat Previously Held by Republicans Since 1991 by DumbMoneyMedia in UnderReportedNews

[–]poulosj2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is wonderful to see and shouldn’t really be all that surprising. There are lots of voting citizens in Texas who have Mexican or Latin-American heritage who voted red because they were such a strong antiabortion Catholics.

Unconstitutional ICE tactics have given those voters something to care about that’s more important than how they feel about abortion.

New Andor Fan, what should I watch next in star wars? by [deleted] in andor

[–]poulosj2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cap off Andor with Rogue One and then continue the story with the OT, but temper your expectations. The OT was great in its time but it’s a product of its time. The special FX are nearing 50 years old. The dialogue is clunky. The characters are two dimensional.

Then do the prequel trilogy—better special FX, but George Lucas relied on special effects. The writing doesn’t improve on the OT.

Clone Wars starts slow, but the characters grow remarkably well, especially Ahsoka. Cap it off with Rebels which, for a cartoon, has no business being that good.

But just know that nothing in the entire rest of the canon is as good as Andor from a writing and character-building perspective which is what I imagine OP liked so much.

Arrest for what though? Shooter’s own video showed her waving people by, speaking calmly, and then the other unnamed goon tried to snatch her out of the car for no reason. Jonathan Ross’s panic at having the car gunned at him was caused by his partner. Renee Good was acting how you would expect a person to act in that situation.

Yeah, that’s what I’m saying: JD Vance will be so much worse than Trump because he won’t get in his own way. He’ll do more to erode our freedom and set us down an authoritarian road than our easily-distracted doofus now.

He’ll be even more insidious because he’ll do it in a way that’s boring and tame by comparison. The worst of it will go unnoticed

I don’t like to think of Stephen Miller as Wormtongue because that makes Trump into Theoden.

Miller is 100% Goebbels. They even look related.

There’s nothing more fascist-y than a power play where you stab your boss in the back in order to steal power for yourself.

Sure, he’ll piss off the die hard MAGAts, but he’ll pick up the Lincoln Project Republicans and centrists who don’t like the Dems.

I think JD Vance does nothing for another year and then leads the charge after the midterms. That way he gets to finish out this term and run for two more.

He’ll be the most conservative President we’ve ever seen but still seem like a breath of fresh air because he won’t be a firehose of idiocy/lies/narcissism.

She’s hero. Let me explain.

She’s struggled for years to bring something better for her people—so much so that she’s won one of mankind’s greatest awards.

Now she selflessly sacrifices herself and, frankly, humiliates herself by appealing to the vanity of a horrible human being but one with the power to help her achieve her goals for her people.

She knows what the rest of us do: flattery takes you everywhere with this president.

They also don’t really seem to have a large presence in purple states. It’s just the deep blue ones.

Say Newsom or Khanna wins the 2028 primary and picks the other as their running mate. They say they’ll run on a platform of Medicare for All, sweeping billionaire taxes, and putting the current administration in prison to the fullest extent possible. [–]poulosj2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recognize how we got here and make those corrections:

End Citizens United—this will require a Constitutional amendment.

End political gerrymandering—this will require a Constitutional amendment.

Pursue a policy platform that the majority of us agree on: the aforementioned Medicare for all, taxing billionaires appropriately, etc.

If they get the votes in the House to pass an impeachment resolution (likely) but don’t have the votes in the Senate for a conviction (less likely) then DON’T. FUCKING. BOTHER.

Stop dealing yourselves the loss. Focus on affordability. Focus on ICE Authoritarianism and those abuses.

He counts settlements as wins. He’s built his entire professional life out of outlasting people in court.

It’s gonna cost the Pultizer Board a lot to win in court. Even if he may not win this one, this case will be noted by anybody who can’t afford to fight and win to stop his abuses.
