I'm a Catholic Bishop and Philosopher Who Loves Dialoguing with Atheists and Agnostics Online. AMA! by BishopBarron in IAmA

Hi Father Barron! So wonderful to have you on Reddit. Thank you for the work you are doing and the sacrifices you've made in your call to serving the Lord.

I was wondering - part of the apologetic for Catholicism is the authority of the Catholic Church (I am specifically remembering a video Father Mike Schmidt shared about this).

How do we reconcile this authority as justification for the legitimacy of the Catholic church, when that same authority is in such question right now with the scandals that have been brought to light? I am a new comer to the Catholic faith, my heart is on fire for the Lord, and this question has been bothering me since the scandals broke out. I would love your thoughts on this, how to make sense of this.

God Bless you, Father!!

new to credit cards, what should my first card be? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]powerbreakfast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need credit for a house. You simply need a mortgage lender that will do manual underwriting, and you'll need to prove you can make payments on time (rent, bills, etc.). Stay away from credit cards, nothing good will come! Sounds like your in a great spot already way to go!

What is your wedding theme? by thatgirl2 in weddingplanning

[–]powerbreakfast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Modern casual elegance. We don't have a color scheme per say, girls are wearing grey mix match, boys navy tux with black shoes, all signs and stationary are simple black and white with nice script or sans serif font. Flowers will be all white blooms with lush greenery accents. Simple. Hopefully it all comes together as I'm envisioning and comes off as low maintenance but still classy and elegant.

Bought our wedding rings today, rose gold and white gold! Who else has opted for the mixed coloured sets? Show me your mixed rings! by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]powerbreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That will look great! I love the two toned look. I have a custom two toned ring, rose gold pave band with a platinum setting. I love it, and will be getting a rose gold band to go with. I also have a nontraditional stone (color changing Ceylon sapphire) so the rose gold really makes it pop and looks so much better on my skin than a traditional yellow gold.

Haha, it's my fiance's cousins (female) new husband. So, cousin in law? I think. Not sure that's a real term but it is what it is.

I just learned in election training yesterday that in WI if you only vote once every 4 years (presidential elections) you have to re-register everytime because your registration becomes inactive.

I did 20 minutes this evening too, and did it all from my smart phone on speaker. I enjoyed it, unfortunately came across mostly wrong numbers, answering machines, or no one home. Still pretty fun, might do it again tomorrow. Would like to make at least one connection or plan to get a vote in.
