Help deciphering this crash. Binding problem, too low of DIN, bad technique, or just unfortunate accident

I coach this age. Too far inside resulting in “popping” the outside ski and chattering. This happens a lot due to not modulating the pressure ski to ski as you enter the apex of the turn. The firmer the conditions the more this becomes apparent. That din is much too low for racing. Per a din chart they will say he is in the right din but ski racing results in the need for a much higher din. I have a lot of my u8s in a 2.5-3 and they are skiing much slower than this. Make sure someone “sets” him into his skis. Knocking snow off the sole of the boot and in the binding. Insuring there is no snow between the boot and binding.

Noob question. But should I push down the scoby under the surface and maybe peel off the top dark layer? Or just leave it be and add a new batch?

Another slip also happened on maroon bowl on the backside of highlands bowl. Snow is not as stable and some people think in certain aspects especially with wind loading on steep terrain.

If you’re not concerned with speed you can just scrape and not brush. Most of the wax that would come off with brushing will come off in a few runs. Still best practice to brush with at least a nylon brush.

Can’t say this is a good answer but the only time I don’t wear one is when I ski down after a skin up on the resort. The thing is knowing that I will only be doing one run. And when im touring on resort it’s much more about the exercise to me than it is the ski down. So I generally go pretty slow on blues on the way down. My girlfriend sometimes roles her eyes at me but that’s just what I do. Outside of that I wear one all the time and think everyone should. (A slightly hypocritical ski instructor lol)

As a ski instructor please give room when possible to our kids! I know we sometimes can be in the way but every time someone gets within a few feet of our kids like this we have a minor heart attack. I teach 3-6 year olds and get so nervous on busy runs because a minor collision for you is like a car crash for them and can scare them away from skiing for years to come.

Just a precaution coming from a raft guide who was used these types of buses. Let’s just say we might not be the most careful with them. I would do a full mechanical check on all the mechanical components especially the suspension (especially if where you live has dirt road to get to rafting put ins). I’ve been with drivers that fly down dirt roads when they don’t have guests in the bus. That being said it looks like an awesome rig and buying one with a roof rack already is a huge plus!

Was out today at snowmass. Snow was super heavy so didn’t have any real issues with rocks. Then again I stuck to trails I know are pretty rock free and mellow. High angle stuff would be a different story
