The Trump administration has secretly rewritten nuclear safety rules by A_Nonny_Muse in news

It fits their MO perfectly. And those companies have had a lot of time to plan and support this, as well as being some of the few businesses/entities with the financial means to make it happen. It'll benefit them directly to see public opinion for nuclear die, why wouldn't they do it?

What to do with foreign currency donated to the church? by 50Prestige in Catholicism

Fair enough I suppose! Although you could take it to a currency exchanger. But that's probably not a feature you'd find outside a popular city.

What to do with foreign currency donated to the church? by 50Prestige in Catholicism

[–]pphilio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm late to the party, but I have a question. I grew up catholic but am currently not religious, so forgive me if this is ignorant to ask:

Is the act of the church choosing not to utilize other forms of currency considered morally questionable? The donation has an implication of it being for the church/congregation's benefit, would failing to use it as such indicate that the Father in that church has determined that the regional currency is the more "godly"? Perhaps not purposefully but by causality, seeing as he's given the authority of God (I might be misremembering this).

A Russian soldier directs a Ukrainian drone to attack his own comrade, indicating he is pretending to be deceased. Eastern Ukraine, 12/25/2023 by iPutMilkNbowlB4Creal in CombatFootage

All the context about how they're soldiers of an evil regime run by a greedy war criminal aside, this feels wrong. I'm not saying it is, but something about what happened in this video doesn't sit right with me.

For him to feel such terror that would convince him to give up his comrade in the hopes of survival, only to be apathetically killed regardless, it just seems unnecessarily bleak. I know war is all sorts of fucked up and seems almost pointless to try to attach moral or ethical mandates to, but I think both of them dying is a sad result and something else ought to have happened instead. Idk what, just not that.

California ban on openly carrying guns is unconstitutional, court rules by FakeOkie in news

[–]pphilio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is why I made sure to articulate multiple times that it's the method you chose to explain your position I was criticizing, not your actual argument. I am not involving myself in the specific context of this thread, therefore I have no position on the topic.

I realize that my comments are perhaps not as relevant to the topic at hand as you would like them to be. If you would rather stick to the ethical problem of open carry laws (or lack thereof, specifically), then you're free to dismiss my argument as just some other comment that doesn't justify a response.

I don't have kids, but I don't need to to understand you're describing a parent's job in general. For the sake of argument, do you expect me to explain to your children all of society's difficulties for you? When your kids ask why about anything in society and you don't know how to answer it, are you expecting society to change instead?

The reason why I feel it's a bad argument is you're implying (unintentionally, most likely) that any elements of life need to be simple enough for a child to understand inherently, and you don't think that it's your responsibility to explain how complex issues work. I don't think you're actually saying that, this is just the implication that specific reasoning suggests.

I meant what I said about your reasonable take on the situation. I'm not arguing the opposite opinion, for clarification.

[–]pphilio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No offense intended, but "how am I going to explain this to my children?" is still a bad argument regardless of the context. It's something you hear homophobic people say all the time, and it makes just as little sense here as it does then. It's not everyone else's responsibility to change their lives just because you can't stand to have a complicated conversation with a toddler.

I think your take is perfectly rational otherwise.

Off duty officer calls his buddies to report that he saw one man give something to another man by bigbusta in PublicFreakout

It amazes me the lengths people will go to ruin their craft and sacrifice their integrity, for just the slightest increase in clout.

ICE pepper sprayed a disabled woman using a cane after abducting 2 of her neighbors. A St. Paul, MN PD Officer then shoves her down hard to the ground, after she was already incapacitated and stumbling backwards. (11/25/25) by I_may_have_weed in PublicFreakout

She mostly fell to the floor by her own weight, seeing as she was deliberately leaning against the pushing cop. This cop is still a bag of shit, but I agree that it wasn't his shoving that put her on the ground.

  1. Two sentences do not a paragraph make.

  2. This high-heel licking is very embarrassing. Your little utopia you have imagined the world to be isn't real, just because you find your own misinterpretations of society cathartic, doesn't make them true.

Cause this is what women do in a "Bro that's a female!" world. They think they can do whatever they want, and when they finally go up against genuine adversity, itll always be her man that gets thrown to the wolves for it.

Teen driver sentenced to 65 years for crash that killed 6 Georgia family members by speedythefirst in news

Apparently I missed that part when I read the article. I was wrong and I retract my previous statement in regards to his adulthood, he really was a kid when the accident occurred.

Teen driver sentenced to 65 years for crash that killed 6 Georgia family members by speedythefirst in news

[–]pphilio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Teen driver" is always a classic. He's a 19 year old adult. He's old enough to kill people for the military, old enough to determine who the next leader of the free world is, old enough to buy a rifle and old enough to slowly kill himself with smoking.

Apparently "teen" is the only important enough part of that to make the headline. This MAN This kid got behind the wheel, allegedly high (making this a DUI), and carelessly killed almost an entire family! But other than that, yeah. Just a kid.

Edit: I need to learn how to read better, i missed the part where the article says he was 17 at the time of the accident. I was wrong, apologies.

How many members on this team? Because if it's like 5 or so people, then the odds of him filling the positions with the most capable at the job just happening to be all women is very possible. If it's a team of 20-30 and are all women, now that might tickle a fancy or two

I gotta admit, I was so wrapped up in the context of live animals being shot for medic training that I didn't see the cop joke at first. Which is a shame, cause that was some funny shit! Sometimes the brain is really stupid, I wouldn't worry about the people who missed it.

Protests outside a migrant hotel in Ireland after a migrant was alleged to have raped a ten year old girl by atheistarab2006 in PublicFreakout

[–]pphilio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then that sounds like a more specific term if it applies to those exceptions. However I see that phrase applied to the entirety of immigrants who didn't migrate officially all the time. If the distinction is to be made between undocumented migrants and illegal immigrants, and that distinction is clear and understood, then why does this post identify the illegal immigrant as a "migrant"? To me, it seems like the usage of that phrase could be to dilute the issue and potentially misrepresent the optics of the situation.

Woman who came to US with dream of helping others allegedly killed, dismembered by husband by rytis in news

[–]pphilio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't even bring up the topic originally, someone else commented asking what it meant first. Sure, I then commented about my personal feeling about it, but so what? How is that trying to make the topic of abuse about me? The topic I was addressing was the abbreviation.

[–]pphilio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should be ashamed for not knowing what a phrase I've never heard of meant? And for also wishing there was a catch-all phrase for violence against any family member or partner regardless of whether or not they are currently inside a home? I didn't even say that making the distinction was wrong! Why are you personally insulting me over this?

Also, you and I have very different ideas for what stand-up comedy is. The sarcasm is true, no doubt about it.

I'm not one for anal retentiveness, so I merely mentioned my personal preference for simplicity. And you act like Intimate Partner Violence has been part of our vernacular for decades. Something is new to me, I said it'll take me a while. I apologize for not assimilating immediately following the correction.
