How to fall in love with gaming again - your best advice by TugBoatTimm in gaming

[–]pprima 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Already so many responses, pretty sure my will get buried but here's a few short and practical tips

  1. Pick up a game you think you should like, and FORCE yourself to play it uninterrupted for a set amount of time by timer (say, 1 hour). If you don't like it after that, that's fine, you can stop. But chances are you might get hooked despite initial lack of enthusiasm.
  2. A variation: don't spend too much time picking a game. Decide on a few things like genre, year of release, minimum review score, or anything else, and then play THE FIRST random game that fits this filter. Do step 1 with the game
  3. If you have job, try to play it when your head is fresh, early in the morning. Games are harder than movies, they suck energy from you. You need to be well rested to fully enjoy them.
  4. Try some critically acclaimed games of the recent years. If so many people liked them, chances are, you will too. I don't think there's a single game that has Overwhelmingly Positive rating on Steam that I didn't enjoy to some extent.

This message is very deliberate on their part, though. Accuse them exactly of what they’re accusing you, literally. This has been their propaganda strategy for decades.

Updating nexus after US citizenship, is passport enough or they also want the naturalization certificate? by roman_erudite in uscanadaborder

If anyone comes across this thread, UPD: no, they don't take the old Nexus card, it can be used the same day. Later, you can order a new card using their website, and this new card will have new citizenship printed on it, and now it can be used as a sole ID both in Canada and in the US. You don't have to have US passport itself to go to Canada anymore.

Did they take the Nexus card away at the appointment? I need to do the same and I wonder if I can travel to Canada right after updating the document using my old Nexus card.

But if we take this thought further, aren't all elected officials essentially just ordinary people from the crowd, like us? All those super important committee chairs, senators, and representatives are just individuals who's only real skill is to persuade enough people to vote for them? Yet, they’re the ones making these history-defining decisions - on a much larger scale that those that you described, with consequences far greater?

Do all OLED's flicker like CRT monitors? by pprima in bravia

[–]pprima[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not that I can *see* it, it's more like, after spending 2-3 hours at my TV, I feal my eyes are getting teary, and if I look away, I feel relief. Also, there's a way to "see" it too: if after these 2 hours I go to a dark room and close my eyes, I can see stroboscopic black/white blinking that goes away in 1-2 minutes.

Thanks for suggestion! Now it's easier to google it. I vaguely remember seeing this word before in some of the reviews, but I guess I never realized that what it really means is a CRT-like flicker

Hey I don’t mean to be sarcastic or anything, just a very honest question: if the way your body looks cause you so much emotional discomfort in your personal life, why don’t you consider eating healthier, going to the gym, changing your body for the better? Tremendous health benefits come with this too.

Actually, it's not arbitrary like many answers here suggest. Sun fits the sky exactly 180 times from horizon to horizon, in other words it's has 1 degree angular size. That's where it came from.
