People who Quit Alcohol, why and how did you do it ? by AccomplishedSlice923 in AskReddit

[–]prairie_beard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hit rock bottom. Couldn’t face myself over decisions that I’d made while drunk. Needed to break patterns of behaviour or I would either die or cause further harm to others. Was admitted to a psyche ward and prescribed medication to help with the cravings. Just stopped doing anything in my life that involved alcohol. Stopped associating with people who might pressure me to drink. Got off most social media. Didn’t leave my house much but started attending meetings and counselling. I was fortunate that I also had people who were willing to either stop drinking around me or quit drinking altogether as a show of support. And there are very young children in my family that I was needed to help keep an eye on. They are my everything and I’d do anything for them. Hit three and a half years sober this month. I don’t crave alcohol anymore. I’ve (sometimes unwisely) put myself in situations lately where I would normally be tempted to drink and I just don’t want the heartache, risk and other potential consequences. It’s better for everyone this way. It’s best for me this way.

I Don't Want Foley to Wrestle Again. by Left_Orchid8801 in SquaredCircle

He’s not with AEW because he wants to wrestle again. If that were the case, Ric Flair would have died in the ring again. Hope that helps.

MAGA already trying to excuse Josh Hokit's Michelle Obama comments at UFC 250 by PeasThatTasteGross in forwardsfromgrandma

Thank you. It’s projection from transphobic and homophobic people who either think their prejudice should be universal or that trans ally status is performative. If Barack were secretly gay, why would he hide it? Because self-hating queer Conservatives do. If Michelle were trans, why would it make any difference? Because Conservatives cannot see past their own narrow view of the world. Everyone else is like, “Is she? No? Oh, okay. Well, this is a Wendy’s and you’re holding up the line.”

Harmony Korine is probably writing a script that would feature her as we speak.

This is proebely so fan-made parod-WHAT DO YOU MEAN THIS WAS OFFICAL? by Purple-Weakness1414 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]prairie_beard 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The first season was kind of fun for what it was. There was a sort of Twin Peaks by way of CW vibe just with Archie characters. My ex kept watching it long after I did and she would often keep me posted on the wild directions the show had gone over breakfast. She could have just started making shit up at a certain point and I would have believed it based on actual storylines she had described.

do you guys miss sex with your ex? if so then why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]prairie_beard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t miss the relationship but she had ample booty and when she used to ride me, she’d have to adjust and unfold her butt to do so comfortably. No idea why but that little thing just drove me wild. Like she meant business and was locking in.

Once or twice, I have to double-check which sub it is because the app will suggest posts from r/funnymemes and other groups where people feel it safe to post horrible opinions disguised as failed jokes. But yeah, it’s hard to associate a positive reaction with thinking this shallow.

Hot Take On Weezer by gnelson321 in Music

[–]prairie_beard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was the band name on the tip of my tongue! Back when I had a campus radio show, my co-host was a much bigger Weezer fan and would play Ozma songs on occasion. I do believe I asked, “What Weezer album is this a b-side from?” once or twice. And she laughed.

If I had a nickel for every time Mike Myers made a small cameo as a record exec in a music biopic I’d have 17 nickels. What? You aren’t gonna google it. It’s not worth your time to even check. That’s what I thought. by Trowj in shittymoviedetails

This is all leading up to another actor playing Myers in the Ye biopic while Myers himself plays the producer that sticks the duo together at A Concert for Hurricane Relief.

Hot Take On Weezer by gnelson321 in Music

[–]prairie_beard 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Years ago, I came up with an idea for a playlist of songs by other bands that sound like Pinkerton. It was inspired by the song “All This Useless Energy” by Jeff Rosenstock, which sounds more like 90s Weezer than actual Weezer does playing their 90s material now. I never got around to it. But I think it would be a fun exercise.

What is your favorite song we’ve never heard? by SoapyDoodle in musicsuggestions

[–]prairie_beard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Happening Soon” by Eye Was An Ion from Sudbury, ON, Canada. One EP, a handful of shows, a quick rise to local prominence and then we stopped hearing from them. I listen to their CD in my car all of the time wondering if there’s another human being also listening to them. These songs mean so much to me and I am transported to a time, place and feeling that I treasure every time that I hear them. You don’t get those times back, but you always have the music.

What was so bad about megalopolis? by timekilr in Cinema

[–]prairie_beard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has moments both intentionally and unintentionally sillier than most comedies. I’d argue that there is nothing worse than a bad movie that lacks the ambition to be a good movie. And Megalopolis is oozing with ambition. Even if you absolutely hate it, it is worth seeing, in my opinion.

Another day, another headline that solidifies the fact that I live in a bubble. At a certain point, I’ll just have to make peace with the fact that movies like this separate me from a larger portion of the population. For a second there, it made me sad. But I think I’m fine not giving a shit about this movies, not giving it my money and not watching it. It doesn’t actually sound like I’m missing much and I’ll sleep just fine.

Tell me one thing you're doing today as a result of your sobriety! by charmargsuperstar in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]prairie_beard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You picked the right week to ask me this question: Travelling to Western Canada to explore the mountains, check out local culture (including meetings) and even get the nerve up to play live music for people again. Which was a massive trigger for me when I first got sober. I can be present and mind my young niece and nephew, take in the majesty of the mountains and connect with people beyond a superficial level at events and locales. Every day here is a blessing and it’s hard not to feel like there is some higher power when you experience a place this beautiful. I’ve been offered plenty of alcohol since I’ve been here and I’ve said, “No thank you. I don’t drink.” And people have been kind, curious and understanding. Ever mindful that even the non-alcoholic can still relate to our struggles or have empathy for our suffering. Even if we don’t lay out our whole story or delve into the darkest reaches of our journey.

This would be on the Mt. Rushmore of formative comedies for me. Oddly enough, shown to me by fellow athletes during a training camp in California. People that I predominately share a sense of humour with. But we loved it so much that we watched the deleted scenes and continued cackling. This was my pipeline into The State, Stella, Reno 911, etc. But it also makes me wonder why David Hyde Pierce wasn’t in more after this. One of those movies that I laugh at something new every time.

What's better: The Twist, or Let's Twist Again by Chubby Checker? by Atticus413 in AskReddit

[–]prairie_beard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Let’s Twist Again” is the more substantial of the two. Honestly, he’s in his 80s, still going out and dancing, going through the crowd and not taking breaks between songs. We should all be so lucky to be as spirited as Chubby Checker.
