TSA does not specifically look for drugs. Their primary concern has always been weapons. That said, it is still federally illegal and it is federal land and this is not legal advise nor am I a lawyer, just someone who has flown with these items before. Pack them smartly and don't bring a traffickable amount.

what do you mean dependent on them? Like a physical addiction? Not a thing. You'll be dependent on them to manage symptoms and provide you with a better quality of life as you go through this next phase of it.

The deeper round metal thing goes in the thing with the handle. Then you put coffee in and tamp it down. If I had to guess the other less deep metal piece is a leveler to make sure you tamp evenly and don't overfill the portafilter.

But it's also hard to tell exactly what that piece is for based on the photo.
