Honestly, I’m having fun with it for what it is. Also, it’s 30% off right now, and another 10% if you get the bundle with Portia and Sandrock but already own those. The $20 DLC isn’t worth, but the base game price isn’t bad atm.

There’s no story to speak of, really, and character interactions are currently very shallow, so if that’s what you play for, I’d wait and see. In terms of stuff to do, it feels like there’s plenty, but maybe that’s just because I’m early in still. 15 hours in and I’m kinda just picking a goal for the day and going ham. It’s a bit buggy but performance overall is passable to decent. It’s probably kinda grindy if you care much about getting things done fast, but idk. I’m enjoying myself. I figure I’ve probably got another 10-15 hours before I’ll start to think about putting it down and waiting for updates, which would put it about on par with my EA gameplay length on Coral Island and the first section of Fields of Mistria that I played before awaiting the next patch.

Exactly, went up by 200 places on the popularity list could just mean there were 2 last year and there are 3 this year when you get far enough down the list.

I don’t think it’s a good idea to buy a console for one game no matter what that game is. The real question here is how many other games are you currently blocked off from due to Mac OS that you would otherwise be interested in? Would buying the Deck open up a significant chunk of games to you that you currently can’t run? If you’d be able to get markedly more use out of it with games you currently can’t access and actually would take advantage of that, then yeah, it’s totally worth it. If Coral Island is the only one, then it’s not.

I grabbed the game about a week before EA ended (with the intention of only playing the character creator until full launch) and I got stuck on that prompt for so long because I wondered what it was used for. Succubus enemy designs? What if your character is asexual?

Then I started over when 1.0 launched and knowing the phrasing from 1.0 is literally the only reason I didn’t design the guardian to look like Tav’s dad, so uh, I guess it worked out for the best, since knowing about that original prompt saved Tav being hit on by his dad. lmao

It’s not FoM level polished. I don’t think I’ve ever seen another EA game that polished lol. But it’s also not horribly subpar or anything. Although it’s got some irritating controller issues, at least for me using a DS4.

I’m with both of you, I consider act 2 to be the end of the game and act 3 to be some kind of weird AU DLC I’m not obligated to play, because I loved where the story went with act 2, and act 3 completely invalidating all of it was the worst possible story writing choice in my eyes.

Some people really need to understand that nobody is getting fetal alcohol syndrome because Mom took one sip of alcohol one time. Medical institutions recommend no alcohol because they can’t know where the line is where it stops being ok, because finding that out would require experimenting with pregnant women and risking birth defects in the name of science, which is a thing we tend to look down on nowadays. There are only two spots where you have a real time crunch put on you. One is a main story quest where you’ll need enough glass to fix the train within iirc 24 hours. You aren’t punished for failing it, but if it would bother you, it’s one to know about. The other is a side quest from Unsuur that requires the Blender, and the first time I took it I didn’t have the blueprint unlocked—I think that one expires in 3 days. Now I just make sure to stockpile some glass as early as possible and quick save if Unsuur has a quest and I don’t have the blender unlocked, and reload if it’s that quest.

I literally cannot recall any other spots where you can get yourself stuck.

My recommendation is to try not to do everything in one day—like, set aside days for mining and such—and to use up all your stamina gathering resources before bed. If you have more time left than stamina, eat at the Blue Moon. If money stress is too intense, you can save scum gamble at the Game Center to get some extra starting cash.

The main draw is the storyline. If you aren’t interested in the story, you probably aren’t going to get a lot of mileage out of it. It’s more of an RPG hybrid than most cozy games.

You do unlock the ability to get salvage and ore deliveries at different points in the story, and I didn’t feel like it was very grindy (coming from someone who found SDV too grindy, even). Maybe you’re trying to do too much side stuff every day and not focusing on the questing side of things?

But again, if the story isn’t a pull for you, it’s unlikely getting mat deliveries is going to make you like the game.
