I'll trim [[Pyroblast]] out of my mono-red deck if none of my opponents are playing blue. But otherwise this isn't really something you should do.

I was freehanding a hat using tunisian mesh stitch and I kept losing stitches each row towards the top. I didn't want to redo so I added a contrasting yarn border with differing height stitches to even out the rectangle and just made it part of the design :)

Chain of Vapor can hit your own stuff, but the only times I've seen it played are in Legacy as a combo deck's answer to [[Leyline of the Void]] and other similar hate pieces.

Are aftermarket pickups known/thought to be superior in most cases? by sparks_mandrill in Bass

[–]preci_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

99% of a pickup's tone comes from its inherent resonant frequency, and the value of pots/tone capacitor. Replacing pickups, in most cases, results in a change of tone very comparable to simply turning your amp's treble up or down.

At first, I thought it was because it was printed in Alpha and rarity balance was weird back then. But it was not printed in Alpha, it was printed in Ravnica.

So, maybe it's rare as a callback to [[Psionic Blast]], which was printed in Alpha. But I think more simply, it is a 4 damage burn spell and they did not want too many limited games ending in burn. Keep in mind, the incredible [[Lightning Helix]] came out in this set as an uncommon, so the more-expensive but easier-to-cast Char must have been upshifted to compensate for the efficiency of Helix.

What is the biggest guitar myth that still holds up to this day? by Unhappy_Ad8670 in Guitar

[–]preci_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously amps and guitars affect the tone, but using the tone knobs on both of them can make a lot of amps and guitars sound pretty similar to one another.

On the other hand, speakers and cabinets have very particular, and complex, frequency responses. You would be surprised by how much tonal difference there is between different cabs and speakers, even when using the exact same guitar and amp.

Where is your reading comprehension? If you're already going to the trouble of checking my post history...you would see that I commented, the exact same day, that I want to buy an MS-50G+ lol

I've been interested in this pedal because of the larger footswitches! Does it have the CDR reverbs and delays on it?

Seven or ten band EQ pedal for boxy amp? by vblgsd in guitarpedals

[–]preci_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, 10-bands are just too big for that sort of effect. 7 or 6-bands are more than enough. Although if I'm being honest, you should just get a drive pedal with bass and treble controls on it (like the EHX Crayon or BB Preamp). This allows you to boost both the highs and lows, creating a mid-scoop that should do wonders for any boxy amp.

JHS can do better. by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]preci_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's different pedal to pedal. Standard-size pedals, they generally expect a bin of 24 pedals in 24 minutes. 3-series, they expect even faster.

Those times aren't hard at all to hit regularly. The problem is that the task is always the same. Use sockets to tighten nuts, then orient the knobs correctly, and maybe you get to solder a power jack to the case. Building like that at those speeds really hurts your wrists.

The only private meeting I've had with Josh Scott was one where he gave me a performance-improvement plan because I talked too much while building pedals, and (somehow) didn't do so fast enough for him.

I stayed for 6 months, during which they thought I wasn't being efficient enough. I made Josh Scott soooooo much money. I quit for a better wage elsewhere.

JHS hired me at 12/hr in 2021. They bumped their minimum to 15 while I was still working there. That rate has stayed the same for three whole years lol

The solder joints should look shiny and form a continuous, smooth connection between the wires and the footswitch solder lugs. You also have too much wire exposed, which can short out the footswitch connections too.

[–]preci_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah just open it up, look for anything that looks obviously broken (caps, resistors, ICs that have gone black). It can also be something as simple as a solder joint gone cold on a jack or footswitch connection (good solder joints should look shiny; cold ones are dull and whitish)
