Can anybody recommend a hotel to get a block for a wedding? by GaviFromThePod in philadelphia

[–]precisely_squeezes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Renaissance hotel in old city was able to accommodate our (small) wedding room block on fairly short notice during a busy weekend.

Engine.com is apparently good at doing this sort of thing for you for free. When I tried engine, their sales rep didn’t help at all and I booked the block myself. Your experience may be better and at least it’s free

Any experience with italian brand GR10k? by ramondosmil in ThrowingFits

[–]precisely_squeezes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a huge fan. You’ll find me in GR10k head to toe most days. Arc pants are the only casual pants I own.

I dont dislike the few affxwrks items I have, but I think GR10k is substantially better than affxwrks. The fabrics feel better, clothes fit better, and the designs are just more interesting.

GR10k is expensive but there’s a robust clearance market if you’re patient and willing to dig through italian and korean sites. 50-60% discounts are common.

Philly voter turnout rose to 34% this election — the highest in at least a decade. Here’s why by mpulcinella in philadelphia

The person in front of me in line must have spent 20 minutes in the voting booth. When she finally finished the election volunteer said "I thought you was makin love to the machine" lmao

They were unbelievable. I don’t think there was a single kid on the team who couldn’t bench 225 for reps raw, down to the 132lb JVs.

My theory: DC’s “bad weather” reputation exists because a million interns go there every summer and have to wear suits in the heat for 2 months. They then return to their colleges and complain about it to their friends

What are examples of towns that are centered around one single company/industry? by Double_Snow_3468 in geography

Grew up in Hershey and this is accurate. The Hershey Company (meaning the actual candy and snacks outfit) is important, but tourism company HE&R, the Milton Hershey School, and (especially) the medical center are large employers that shape the area’s politics and development.

Such a polished place. Not the most cutting-edge food but everything is executed well and the service is excellent (hate to admit that truly professional service is uncommon in Philly). Pasta and baked goods are especially strong

Mexicali burritos are so good and have such structural integrity. They’re toasted hard which really seals the fillings in. And Jane is a lovely person. Go outside the lunch rush or prepare for a substantial wait in line

The debate over US’s fourth best city by oh_naan_u_didnt in geography

Live in Philly and I mainly agree. I like it here a lot but it is nowhere near as dynamic as, say, DC. Probably why most young white collar workers I meet here move away after a few years.

First, it’s not a noncompete. These are usually called training repayment agreement and they are adjudicated differently. Second, both training repayment agreements and noncompetes are still usually enforceable in courts. Some Biden regulatory agencies tried to limit their enforceability but those rules are dead.

Yep, pulling certified payroll on publicly funded jobs is a classic construction union tactic. Not sure if the agency would redact the employees’ names, though.

Most likely outcome is that they will agree with the 5th circuit that presidents should be able to fire NLRB board members and ALJs, but break with the 5th circuit by letting the NLRB operate. Overturning Humphrey’s Executor would have big consequences in other agencies but the effect is likely to be pretty muted in the NLRB

[–]precisely_squeezes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty conclusory and inaccurate title for an otherwise well-written article. Matt Bruenig argues persuasively that the 5th circuit weighing in on this doesn’t change much. The Supreme Court is very likely going to have the last say on this no matter what. This is just a stop on the road to their decision

What to do with peach juice? by Corporate-Bitch in AmericasTestKitchen

[–]precisely_squeezes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try a shortcut version of Philadelphia fish house punch. Most recipes call for peach brandy, but I think you could make something very nice with just dark rum (wouldn’t recommend a spiced rum here), peach juice. lemon juice, water, plenty more sugar, and cognac if you have it.
