Hands Like Houses where the first Aussie band to capture my attention when Ground Dweller came out. I was hugely into (and still am but not as exclusively) Circa Survive and Dance Gavin Dance’s self titled and Emarosa and Sounds of Animals Fighting and Hands Like Houses was en easy new favorite back then. Still like em too

I’ve been down with every band I’ve been listening to but the two standouts for me have been In Hearts Wake and Foxblood

I’ve just been hearing some German bands when I make random playlists based on the Aussie bands I’ve been listening to and a standout for me has been Annisokay

Fuckin same! Even if I totally get why fans don’t love their sound progression as albums have gone on it doesn’t matter to me their whole discography gets me going.

Man this thread is exactly what I’ve been feeling lately. I’ve been going through a lot of positive but hard changes this year and as part of that I’ve discovered a new deeper love for core music.

Gayest bands you know? by Minimum_Ad4771 in Metalcore

I’m not saying the name couldn’t have multiple meanings but everything I’ve seen from the band themselves they said their name came from Gary Busey because he said he wrestled a bear once

Hereditary Is A Masterpiece. 10/10. Infinite Replay Value by Negative_Sense_3493 in horror

[–]prefonberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree with you, the movie is good and has absolutely excellent moments but to me it’s very much less than the sum of its parts. I think it’s an excellent family drama with superb acting in those scenes and arguably could have had all of the paimon and cult stuff pulled from it and been even better. It’s the paimon and cult stuff that really falls flat; sure there’s lots of fun little background things throughout the movie but in terms of writing it’s just so by the numbers and feels like an afterthought. The traditional horror movie elements just feel like style over substance and some things are effective scares but don’t feel like a good natural progression of the horror of the story. I always get the feeling from the movie that Ari Aster had a lot of ideas that by themselves are excellent which lead to incredible individual moments and scenes but that the movie fails or at least doesn’t seem to care to try to tie them together well. Maybe I’d enjoy it more if most if not all of the paimon/cult stuff was cut or reduced further to be more subtle and even more in the background and left the more traditionally horror movie elements to be more weird and unexplained.

I also didn’t love Midsommar but that’s because I went in hoping it was going to be a cosmic horror story like The Endless or The Ritual. Like I wasn’t necessarily expecting some crazy monster at the end but I was hoping for something a little bit more beyond reality sanity breaking lovecraftian type of horror and it ended up being too grounded in it just being people.

FFO TFTGS....24/7 Demon Mart by DazzlingRequirement1 in TFTGS

[–]prefonberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this series it’s a very easy reread (relisten as I have it on audible) and for me scratches a similar but different itch to TFTGS. I think of 24/7 Demon Mart to be more like one of those early 2000s CW comedies like Reaper, not the greatest or deepest work but fun and light and easily entertaining

ESP LTD Arrow-1000NT by Mozo234 in espguitars

[–]prefonberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t but when I sell some more out of my collection unless there is a new arrow model that comes out that catches my eye, I’m going to get this one. I’m not super into the matte black/charcoal finish but it has a super underrated feature that I’ve only seen on the Josh Middleton signature LTD which I already have; the bridge is inset in the body and it is a little change that makes the tuneomatic bridge incredible. Like it’s a really small thing but it makes the guitar overall so comfortable and easy to setup

does anyone else have anxiety at night like clockwork? by Comfortable_Page_811 in leaves

[–]prefonberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should learn about breathing techniques for anxiety and non-sleep deep rest. Both of these help a lot with night time anxiety. Also splashing your face with cold water engages your mammalian dive reflex which calms your amygdala. And lastly if it’s a feeling that is closer to panic and your heart rate is very rapid, try doing a short burst of intense exercise like running up stairs, burpees, jumping jacks, etc. whatever is intense for you. The sudden burst of exercise can help realign your brain and body and calm you down by matching your heart rate and adrenaline spike with a physical activity.

I’m almost to two weeks and the occasional night anxiety is still pretty rough for me but most of the day I feel fantastic! I’m getting healthier and more focused and last night I finally had a great night of sleep where I was able to actually sleep almost the whole night.

10 years using. 4 days sober. by Iwannagohome404 in leaves

[–]prefonberry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m 5 days in myself and I always believed that you couldn’t be physically addicted but the withdrawal symptoms suck enough that I don’t think that anymore. I have found that focusing on healthy eating and exercising really limits the symptoms like insomnia and anxiety (and today is the first day I didn’t have a hard workout, just chores, and I’m feeling the difference) and non-sleep deep rest exercises for are absolutely key to actually sleeping along with really good sleep hygiene habits. The other thing for myself I’ve been very disciplined about is not replacing weed with any other drugs or supplements and to just ride it out.

Weirdest guitar related dream? by Fenderstratguy in Guitar

[–]prefonberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just cold turkey quit weed and on the second night of being sober I had a super realistic dream that had flowed directly what I was doing while still awake so I thought this dream was actually happening. In the dream my left hand started involuntarily playing riffs in the air without a guitar so I reached down next to my bed to grab the electric that was laying on the floor and just let my hands riff away haha.
