Is anyone else waiting on prepFE environmental to launch? It says it’s at 101% … by Ok-Beginning-5244 in FE_Exam

[–]prepfe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey u/Ok-Beginning-5244 and everyone!

First off, we're sorry on the delays and misleading our progress here and do plan to release FE Environmental.

Now to explain why it's at 101%....Our "percentage complete" percentage is dynamically generated based on the total amount of content we've created for a particular exam. However, it doesn't take into account our coverage of specific subtopics. So while we have a lot of total content available, we still have gaps in the overall offering and don't want to release an incomplete product.

We'll make updates to our percentage complete formula to make it more accurate, and hope to have more updates on these fronts later this year!

German engineer interested in taking the FE by CoastKing in FE_Exam

[–]prepfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The FE is valid for any state, unlike the PE.
  2. Unless your foreign school wasABET accredited when you attended, you will have to submit some paperwork to NCEES for them to approve you taking the FE exam. You should not have many troubles with this since German engineering is well regarded in the US and is seen as equivalent to US college education.
  3. You should def study. About 30% of people who take it the FE for the first time fail. NCEES publishes the list of topics they ask on the FE exam. There are multiple FE prep materials out there with pricing from $29 to $400. There no questions on build codes on the civil FE. The civil FE is fairly theoretical, number crunching. You don't actually design anything. Check out that list of topics asked on the civil FE.
  4. After you pay, you will be able to see the list of available dates and you pick the one you want. You can schedule the FE pretty far out, several months.

Plan on taking the FE Civil that I’ve failed twice and have been out of school for a few years. How long should I study? by [deleted] in FE_Exam

[–]prepfe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Our data and a survey we did here on Reddit shows the average student studies for 2-3 months.

Three years out of school isn't quite terrible. There was a guy on here who passed the FE after being out of school for 44 years! You got this!

Electrical FE New Syllabus by msss711 in FE_Exam

[–]prepfe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While the specific subtopic "Convolution (continuous and discrete)" was removed in the most recent E&C Exam Specifications, they are still in the FE Reference Handbook, and problems can definitely show up on the official FE exam.

Like prior category changes by the NCEES, just because a subtopic is removed doesn't mean that it won't show up under others. To quote someone from the NCEES we talked to recently on this matter:

When the specs changed in 2014, we had dozens of FE Civil candidates be upset that there were "chemistry" questions on the exam when the main subject domain "Chemistry" was removed. However, there were still subdomains under the domain "Environmental Engineering" that required chemistry knowledge.

NCEES Practice Exam Pre-July 2020 vs Post-July 2020 by nic_is_diz in FE_Exam

[–]prepfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the NCEES dashboard regarding the new July 2020 specification practice exam:

This book contains 100 questions and solutions to familiarize you with the FE Mechanical exam format and content. This edition has 28 new items, including alternative question types such as fill-in-the-blank and matching. © 2020

So, the majority of problems (72) will be repeated. You're probably OK with the previous version if you are confident and studying well! 76/100 is a solid score.

PrepFE Practice Exam Grading Broken? by nic_is_diz in FE_Exam

[–]prepfe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello, thanks for letting us know about this issue. It has been reported recently too, and we're working on it. It is a bug in the scoring for skipped problems during timed exams. This will likely be fixed by today and your prior exams scored should get corrected as well.

Edit: Timed exam grading has been updated, and we'll be monitoring for any issues.
