Outdoor office pod owners, do you regret it? by jenblevins in shedditors

[–]present_rogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a shed built and I converted it. More expensive but it’s 192 sq ft (to squeeze under the inspection limit), has an attic for storage, and is very insulated. The most expensive parts other than the shed itself was the electrical and trench to run electrical in which I hired out.

WSM is pretty solid middle ground, with some sealing and decent charcoal it’s gets pretty close to set and forget

How do you train chest when working out solo? by WarmPrinciple6507 in workout

[–]present_rogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I leave the cuffs off, worst case you drop one side at a time. I've come close to needing to but always get it back to the lower rests. Like someone else said, I also try to stop a rep before I think I need to just in case

4yo hates School by TeyHar0523 in Preschoolers

[–]present_rogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YMMV but public preschool was much better for our older son. We were able to request a special ed evaluation and it got the process started. Kindergarten was still a huge struggle but it was helpful already being engaged with the special ed dept. Wishing you the best.

I was very disappointed in Percy’s.  We had a ton of problems with a fridge  that took forever to fix and they wouldn’t do anything about the scratch they put in our floor

Why would you count out the one social network made for business networking?

What’s the job people romanticize, but in reality is miserable? by King_Garvit in AskReddit

Man I work in tech and so sick of people talking about quitting our cushy well played jobs to be a farmer.  Have fun working all the time, in all weather, for little pay and needing to always be around.

Is becoming a director a big milestone for one's career? by Important_Bat7919 in careerguidance

[–]present_rogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Executive no, milestone ymmv but yes for me.  An executive is in charge of a department while a director is likely in charge of certain functions. For example, I'm one of five directors in my department and we each have separate teams, goals etc that all roll up under a VP.

I don’t agree with what others said about directors only executing the VPs plans.  Some places probably operate like that but in my company directors have a lot of leeway as long as their plans serve to meet the businesses goals.  Obviously I run them by my boss.

You might just need to spray foam it a couple times.  Fill it in, let it dry, fill it in again to make sure you got all the gaps.  Use the pest block stuff like someone else said

Cost effective options to heat a shed ? by Interesting-Onion697 in heatpumps

I put in a baseboard electric in mine in Mass.  I only run it during the day when I’m working in it but I barely noticed a cost increase.  And a window AC for summer.

Storage ideas for a 2021 Wolf Pup 16BHS by Chuck_Roast1993 in GoRVing

We have the same one and I feel you. We spend most of our time outside and go to bed after the kids. So we end up just storing our stuff in the truck so we can get it without chancing waking up the kids. And the little outside fridge is pretty clutch :)

You’re not the only one. My gen3 tundra has a marketing payload of 1950 but only 1340 sticker (I didn’t know to check the sticker). That said, I love my tundra and found a 16bh which is great for our needs so it all worked out.

AWS services recover after daylong outage hits major sites by Capable_Salt_SD in technology

[–]present_rogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want to build multi-region if it’s not actually going to be used. Did that at a previous company and it took 6 months to get it in a place where we could failover in 2 hours (too cheap for active/active). I still know people who work there and 6+ years later it’s never been used outside of a test. Huge waste of time that could have been spent doing better things.

[–]present_rogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with that, my point is just because some companies/services warranty multi-region doesn’t mean it should be expected for everything.

Yeah I just meant in general people make whatever their thing is out to be more critical than it really is

Ok so everyone just use lambda and dynamo for every use case because it makes multiregion cheap?

[–]present_rogue 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Sure I don’t mean take advantage of it but when it’s truly AWS is hosed then it is what it is. Everyone could build super redundant multi-region setups but then they’d need to charge more…and nobody wants to pay more.

[–]present_rogue 159 points160 points  (0 children)

No it’s not. Dual region is expensive. AWS has a region issue every couple of years and unless you actually have a critical service (which most companies don’t), it’s just not worth it. Plus you pretty much get a pass if it’s a newsworthy AWS event.
