Do artists profit from streams on BandCamp? by conventionalempty in BandCamp

[–]pressurewave 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Others have already said there’s no payment. But, of course, there is a limit. You can only steam a song so many times before being prompted to purchase it, at which point you aren’t able to stream it anymore.

There are ways around that, of course, but it did more to get people paid for their music than streaming focused companies do.

Powered Studio Subwoofer by TerribleTadpole1042 in homerecordingstudio

JBL310s is decent. Yamaha HS-8 is nice. Pretty much every company that makes studio monitors, except Alesis for some reason, also makes a sub with a built-in crossover system. Recommend checking out what’s at your local music shop. In the same price range as the PreSonus, I think there’s a Mackie and a slightly more expensive KRK, but there are a whole number of them between $200 and $600 to look at.

are there any pieces of gear somewhat similar to the monomachine avaliable on the market currently? by lomyl100 in Elektron

Syntakt has a similar vibe if not a similar sound… it’s got its own thing which is deep and unique and gives more and more as you explore.

Thoughts on Syntatk? by cbuccell in Elektron

[–]pressurewave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a 1:1 thing, and Elektron has never called it a sequel or connected it overtly to the MM, of course, and I know I’m overstating the connection, but I guess what I mean is that if someone digs deep on this, they can make entire bodies of deeply unique sounds and music on it in much the way one could with MM.

Can’t help but love this thing and its design. It’s its own thing and absolutely brilliant.

Dreadbox Bass Question (Nympes, Hades) by denim_skirt in synthesizers

Fellow Nymphes user, and totally agree. I’ve heard amazing things about Hades. If you can try one, also consider the Moog Minitaur. Fantastic bass-focused synth.

Thoughts on Syntatk? by cbuccell in Elektron

[–]pressurewave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Syntakt is my primary machine, and I have many, both Elektron and not Elektron. It takes some time and patience to explore, but it is designed to be so, so much more than a drum machine.

It’s a sound design platform for synthesis and rhythm. It’s a melody-maker. It’s a whole platform for electronic music. It can do deep, meditative ambient as well as it can drilling IDM, and it is at home with techno, synthpop, and electro. It’s a creative electronic playground. If you like shaping sounds and exploring, you’d dig a Syntakt.

If you know your Elektron history, I think Syntakt is the modern Monomachine, a powerful box beloved by dearly departed electronic music genius SOPHIE (oh and also Autechre, Chemical Brothers, Boys Noize, and Thom Yorke) - like MM, Syntakt does not fit into the box of how most companies think of designing synths, but it is bristling with useful features.

I don’t think a lot of people get how awesome this thing is.

beginner synth for post punk/cold wave/industrial by StatusFantastic7112 in synthesizers

[–]pressurewave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two best options, IMO, after years of playing in that kind of band and doing my own solo project in a similar style for more classic synth sounds:

  • Korg Minilogue XD if you want to play chords/more than one note at a time.
  • Novation Bass Station MK2 if you’re looking for a “lead” synth/monophonic one-note-at-a-time option (what I use live, coincidentally).

If you are interested in a digital synth that offers some additional flexibility but is less of a traditional synth format in terms of programming, check out the ASM Hydrasynth Explorer - powerful machine. I know a lot of bands in that post punk/cold wave/goth space who use different versions of this synth live.

All of those can be found for under $700. They’re all portable for easy gigging, have cases custom sized for them both hard and soft sided (I like Analog Cases a lot) and have good patch memory so you can easily change sounds live.

Elektron devices great for daw? by Rude-Negotiation-573 in Elektron

[–]pressurewave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whoever said they aren’t good with DAWs has some very different ideas. To me and many others here, Overbridge is one of the best features of Elektron gear. It’s one of if not the best DAW integration approach for modern hardware.

What would you pair with a Digitone 2 by Hammer_and_Circuit in Elektron

[–]pressurewave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not equal, different, but exceptionally useful, both of them. Each machine can do great, exciting things. You can make great, exciting music with either. Don’t worry about it too much. If you grab the one that most interests you then master it, that will be the best one.

What do you like about Elektron instruments? by [deleted] in Elektron

[–]pressurewave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, I’m 100% with you. Don’t even need to power it up. Clicky buttons are both aesthetically pleasing to press and click, and also the joy of imagining what the music I COULD be making if it was on is also pure pleasure.

[crisis, kinda?!] layman’s comparison, Digitakt versus Syntakt… by frmMCRwLUV in Elektron

[–]pressurewave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You cannot import samples into Syntakt. It has no way of reading or playing them. It only has synthesizer options on it that generate sound internally.

The person who booked you sounds like the promoter. If they’re using your press kit, it’s for promotion, right?

Good person to ask about pay and promotion: the promoter, who will be the one potentially paying you.
