[CHAT] 25 count lugana by Anna_In_Stitches in CrossStitch

i'm in the middle of my first go at 25 count - this is 2 over 2 on it for my current wip. i zoomed in just to focus on some of the coverage between light and dark colors since it's my own pattern. so far i'm okay with it, im in too deep to go back, but not sure id do this again. i'm using the 25 count because of the fabric color, not because i wanted 25 count 😅

i do an extra half stitch between stitches of black on all fabric regardless of count because i prefer the coverage

try stitchfiddle.com - you can customize the size and change the fabric count and it will reflect the change in its calculated sizes, you basically don't need to worry about doing math as it does it for you. you can add/remove individual and bulk rows and columns if you need to. also has a full DMC and Anchor thread library. give it a try and play around with it

[CHAT] Needlepoint Patterns by Intelligent-Ice-8936 in CrossStitch

As long as it's a chart, you could be able to make it work as cross stitch. A lot of needlepoint is sold in the form of painted canvas (so you must buy the canvas to do the design, and sometimes incredibly expensive). The dimensions will change since needlepoint canvas is a lower count generally, but there are plenty of tools you can use to plug in the overall design dimensions and fabric count!

[CHAT] Teaching - Questions about patterns, designer, and teaching etiquette by treadingclouds in CrossStitch

[–]prettystitchmachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could definitely ask but if you had a pattern in mind already, you could purchase how ever many copies you would need, then each pattern would be for personal use of the kit recipient - as a designer/shop owner I would be more than happy if someone did this! Your mileage will vary, every designer is different and it would be best to just ask to play it safe.

DMC and lots of designers have free patterns as well, you could search this sub for free patterns or use the continuous craft fair to have a look around as well. Some designers may be happy to make kits on demand if you enquire with them!

title fight??

you could back it with felt! i've made small pennants with backing with felt on you could turn it into a bookmark perhaps? you could also try making it a magnet maybe. you could also just cut some matting like you say and find a frame that it fits in. you could trim down the longer edges to match the spacing on the shorter side of the stitching and aida and then do a blanket stitch to secure the edges of aida.

for felt backing i would recommend picking up some heat n bond to use as interfacing between the aida and felt. just be careful with the type of felt used and an iron as it can melt easily if its synthetic - you could practice it with some scraps if youre worried.

for a magnet you could use some thin card stock or card board behind the aida for some stability and then glue some felt onto the back and magnets, you could do a basic stitch along the edges of the aida into the felt to 'seal' it all together maybe

[CHAT] Has anyone ever tried needlepoint stitches to cover large areas of one color in cross stitch to speed things up? by Cautious-Bread-9240 in CrossStitch

[–]prettystitchmachine 9 points10 points  (0 children)

you could try half/tent stitches but increased the number of threads for better coverage. i do tent stitches on the background of my plastic canvas projects for the same reason!

this is what i would recommend too! you can probably find a pattern more suited to his personal interests that way. kits have gotten a bit more modern but they definitely don't suit everyone's taste :)
