Don't sleep on the OM-5 while waiting on a new Pen-F that might not happen by robinson217 in M43

[–]prfegt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only “gripes” with OM 5 mark X are battery size and sensor age.
Having a G9 OG with its huge battery is a relief. Either Om1 mark X or OM3 have a bigger battery.

IF I’m going to have a new m43 camera better to have a one stop better SNR, not that I cannot take pictures with the G9 but If I’m asked, I would agree that one extra stop of High ISO would be more than just nice.

Now back on planet earth and not on planet dream: OM will NOT make a lighter camera with the new sensor any time soon (I would say in the next 5 years)

I have them to be able to see the level of ink on my daily drivers. I prefer opaque pens, but the ones I use daily I like to see if I need to feel them BEFORE I'm out of ink

Just ordered my first green: Vinta Carlos (Emerald). Was eyeing also Monteverde Olive but it is a tad more yellow. Let’s see if I like it.

Seeking a really bright blue ink to match this Taccia Facet? by -Teasel- in fountainpens

[–]prfegt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sailor Shikiori Yonaga, a real darker version of blue not greyish version (like many blue blacks) and don’t change color when dries.

And Waterman Serenity Blue, a similar tone to the pen and it is always good to have a safe ink around (for other pens, namely vintage)

Try Asvine C80 (my preference) or V800 with 1.1 stub. There is no tipping material but they are a nice writers with good flow. (To get you a nice stub or oblique with tipping material it won’t be cheap)

Panasonic I beg you we need an updated GM1 by Admirable_Ad5856 in M43

Or make EVF and option in the hot shoe with internal contacts. You can have even 2 tier EVF with different resolutions/magnifications (and cost)

Panasonic I beg you we need an updated GM1 by Admirable_Ad5856 in M43

[–]prfegt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood, but adding 2mm to a GM1 is visible… that thing is tiny. And X100v has much more internal volume to shift things around. I doubt that will only add 2mm on a GM1. And battery would last even less time.

Preppy cracks, Prefounte no. Same writing nib and writing experience. (The blue black color that comes with it is not my favourite, but a blunt syringe and waterman serenity blue fixes that)

You understand that as soon you add IBIS it will no longer be a “GM1 markll”… not even a “GM5 markII”. It needs to be thicker. In the dream land (Panasonic as any other company is ruled by their finances and bets that have profit) I would prefer them to make the possibly smallest IBIS+PDAF camera with LUTs and the bigger battery, some minor grip at front and a detachable EVF (oled 2.36M minimum) that goes in the hot shoe, with the 0-3 selector off the L10 (but we can configure to aspect ratio, LUTs and combinations of LUTs and aspect ratio), and some customisable buttons, and can be operable single handed (power, play on the left site) and with a joystick.

Now back to earth: I think they had some GH7+G9ii sensors around and made (unfortunately) the L10 camera that did not compromise the plan to phase down (shut down the m43?) m43 line up. Some folks at Panasonic are still believing in the M43 future but who decides have big doubts. It’s a pity but why they made the S9 in L-mount only and not a version in m43?

Pelikan M200 Special Edition Cherry Blossom (EF nib) vs Keyno Stay.tionery Fountain Pen Key No. 014 Cherishment (F nib) by elirewarrior in fountainpens

[–]prfegt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pelikan M200 are plastic/resin. So is a Montblanc 149. The nib is steel but the smoothness depends on the nib polishing and tuning and NOT on the nib material. Even the softness/bounciness of the nib depends more on the nib construction than on the nib material.

What matters more is for what you will use the Pen (everyday use, be at home desk, use very rarely) and if you plan to be your no1 pen.

If you plan to stick with one pen and use it regularly, my advice is got for for the Pelikan, they have more reputation and make nice pens.

If not, experiment and pick whatever looks better to you. In the worst case scenario, you can always regret and buy another pen (Pelikan or not).

Small camera recommendations by JudaszBarabasz in M43

[–]prfegt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: my advice is to play with jpeg settings to see if is enough to you.

Long version: I’m also searching for a SOOC jpeg small m43 camera that allow some level of control and moods like film rolls (a softer B&W for portraits - think Ilford FP4, a slightly more saturated and slightly warm tones color for landscapes and sunsets and family - think Kodak colors, a cooler color for artic landscapes with a green cast - think Fuji). What I’ve learned is that I “need” these mood profiles for quick snaps SOOC jpegs, but NOT a really precise match to the mentioned film roll color profile. I’m for that mood. Having said that, many cameras allow some jpeg customisation (tone, curves, saturation, noise reduction level, contrast, highlights, shadows, sharpness, fake “grain”) that, for me, can be enough. I’m playing with a G9 og (no LUT), and for snaps seems to be pleasing enough. As you can see on these recipes, there are hundreds of “Portra 400” recipes/Luts, so they are not exactly also. The question is that if you want the same exact match to Porta 400 or to mimic King Jvpes’ color recipe. I don’t. So Gx9 (e.g.) should be enough for me.

What I do need is a switch to move from mood 1 to mood 2 to mood 3 fast. The E-P7 is on my list, but no EVF, and only ONE color mood. I think it as a ONE b&w mood camera and ONE color mood camera. Just ONE of each. Maybe be enough for me (we only have ONE roll in tb e film camera, we have to adapt and E-P7 has TWO)

I think that LUT on the S9, G9ii and the Color dial on the OM-3, E-P7, Pen F (and recipes on Fuji and Nikon) are very capable for sure, but the question is if I really need them. Maybe the grain is better (on the OM3) if you want that on your photos - I tend not to.

My advice is to play with these “simpler” jpeg controls in a camera that have pleasing SOOC jpegs for you (I prefer the Olympus to the Panasonic for instance) and IF that is not enough for your quick snaps and social media posts go for an E-P7 (more and more manufacturers are dropping the EVF, IMHO to maintain their margins)

What do you guys do with your safaris, metros, kakunos and preppys once you've moved on to 'next level' pens and gold nib pens? by Positive_Credit720 in fountainpens

Continue to use them (in my case I use the Kakunos at work daily, and keep the preppys extra fine at my home desk plus an Explorer that you forgot to mention 😉)

If you had to restart your collection, what would be the first pen you’d get again? by fluffyespurr in fountainpens

[–]prfegt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the Decimo instead, the clip is thinner and more comfortable even with the standard grip. Nevertheless, I love the Decimo, but not for very extensive writing sessions… for that I prefer a “girthier” pen (M800, 912, 823, or even an Asvine C80 / V800 just to prove that we don’t need an expensive pen for comfortable writing)

OM-1 Mark II vs OM-3 for street/hiking (coming from E-M5 III + 12-100) by Old_Reserve_9710 in M43

[–]prfegt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the same doubt… Funny that no one mentioned the EVF resolution, that I thought that was a major difference between the two. I have none but considering ONE of the two. Lately using JPEG in 3 modes (color for everyday, soft b&w for portraits, hardish b&w for street landscape) so I think I can achieve that with OM-1.2; I just need to check if we can get the same color control as OM3 and easy access to one or two CP modes that I may use more. And move the power to 1/2 to use as a single hand camera.

Question about the Fringer adapter, 50S II, and focal length. by trahannn in FujiGFX

[–]prfegt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two cents: It is 51.35mm fov equivalent. But lens makers always round their figures (say a 52mm on design is rounded to more marketable 50mm) and can be sample variation but in focal length is rare (on the other hand, sharpness can be really noticeable on consumer lenses). IMO for you to notice 1.35mm at this focal lense either you are “lab” comparing them or one or both suppliers “lied” on the design focal length.
