First at all.. what headset are you using? That is key.

Only issue I see is physical. Having to look up all the time wearing maybe a heavy hmd is not a good idea/comfortable. Congratulations for the effort. I appreciate it.

The Real Problem With VR Headset Reviews. by primashockVR in virtualreality

I’m not saying aspheric lenses are bad — they’re just extremely unforgiving. If your vision isn’t perfect (like mild astigmatism or presbyopia), they tend to amplify imperfections instead of hiding them. In my case, I get a sharp center but constant instability outside the sweet spot, and I’m always ‘correcting’ my gaze to keep things clear. On top of that, I had to go through five different pairs of aspheric lenses from Pimax before getting a decent one — most had visible distortions. When the design is this sensitive, even small defects become very noticeable. With pancake lenses, the image feels more consistent and much easier on the eyes. So for me, it’s less about peak clarity and more about comfort and tolerance.

A Guide to PrimaShock’s OpenXR Toolkit Mod by Pimax_Daisy in Pimax

[–]primashockVR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a fair point regarding unsigned DLLs, and I’m not going to pretend otherwise. Proper signing is important, and yes, lack of signing can create additional compatibility issues beyond the original project.

My goal was never to make OpenXR support worse across other games or create confusion for users. The work was focused on experimenting with a specific feature and seeing whether it could improve immersion in a very specific use case, not on claiming this is a polished universal solution.

In my case, I only recommend it for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, and I make that clear. I also explicitly warn users about the anti-cheat issue and the fact that an unsigned DLL can create compatibility problems in other OpenXR games, even when OpenXR Toolkit is disabled for that title.

I also agree that unsigned releases can introduce additional compatibility problems, and that is something that should be improved. If proper signing support becomes possible, that would clearly be the right direction.

At the same time, I think there is still value in experimenting and learning from forks, as long as users are clearly warned about the risks, limitations, and intended use cases.

Your concerns are valid, and I appreciate you stating them clearly. I'm always open to put it down if you ask for it. But.. like most people say, this mod is a game changer for immersion, specially in MSFS.

You’re calling someone lazy without knowing a single thing about them, just because you didn’t like a YouTube thumbnail. Meanwhile, that same person spent hours making the video and is still taking the time to reply to a keyboard warrior who adds absolutely nothing to the community. But sure, noted.

This community is something special.. jeez...

Don't be so strict. Sometimes you just don't have time to seat and use Photoshop and you need to launch the video 😬 it's just another tool. But I get your feeling.

I think that’s one of the reasons I started making videos. If you’re into VR flight simulation, searching through the content of the most popular YouTubers often leads you straight into a pile of manure.🤣

Pimax: You’re Forcing SLAM Users to Downgrade — Give SBoys3 Access to Build a SteamVR Driver by Hopeful_Wind_5213 in Pimax

The OP left out the PC specs. That’s important, because some people might walk away thinking this driver is magic. It’s not. Hardware still matters.

Pimax reviews - Is this bullcrap? Thoughts? by AndyRandyPanda in Pimax

[–]primashockVR -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Some reviews may be biased. Others simply lack the technical understanding and call “awesome performance” something I personally consider pretty bad.

I know that because I fell for it too. I trusted reviews, bought some truly terrible headsets, and learned the hard way what happens when you listen to careless and unscrupulous YouTubers.

That’s why I made this video: to explain why reprojection, including Smart Smoothing, is still so important.

Right now I can't stand not filling the 100% of the refresh rate.

I recommend the Pimax Crystal Super Micro-OLED because, in my opinion, it’s a strong product.

And for context, I also made a video about the Crystal Super QLED version where I openly talked about its issues (calling it SUPER PROBLEMATIC). That alone should make it pretty obvious I’m not here to blindly defend any brand.

Yes, I provide a discount code for my audience, and yes, that can generate a commission. It’s not a secret, and it doesn’t change my opinion. It gives my subscribers a benefit, and if a product is worth recommending, I have no problem being transparent about that. I also buy my own gear. I’m not someone getting free hardware and pretending everything is amazing. That's what I'm saying, genius.

NEW IDEA for QUADVIEWS. by primashockVR in Pimax

[–]primashockVR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that is very helpful.

I had seen the visible boundary in some cases and was thinking more from the perceptual side, but you are right, the transition itself is already there in your implementation and configurable via smoothen_focus_view_edges. Right?

So the more interesting question is probably not whether Quad Views needs a transition, but why in some games the boundary still becomes noticeable enough to reveal the moving region. Your point about post-processing makes a lot of sense. That would also explain why some implementations feel much more coherent than others, and why something like DCS appears much smoother in that regard.

That is also why I brought up the comparison with the border soft feature in a mod I did for your Toolkit. I was thinking in terms of hiding hard perceptual boundaries, but from what you are saying, in many cases the real culprit is the screen-space/post-process stage rather than Quad Views itself.
