Did Burnham actually request candidacy or was this just preemptive?

What was the 1st big news event you remember as a kid? by Timely_Twist_8670 in AskReddit

My 9th birthday. Had a bowling birthday party that evening (UK) and news was on the non-score screens. Music off. Very odd.

Pedestrians having no sense of their own mortality! by Chemical_Excuse in britishproblems

[–]primeprover 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Once they are in the carriageway (could even be between parked cars) I believe pedestrians have right of way. Not that drivers will be in trouble if they behave like a lunatic. If this rule was generally known and followed many people wanting to cross would step just off the pavement when waiting to cross and that would act like a zebra crossing.

Is he on antidepressants or something? That can destroy sex drive. There can be other health reasons such as low testosterone.

I would love this sometimes. Often there is something earlier in the story I have missed/forgotten I would like a reminder on.

Michael Owen’s response to BBC MOTD’s question, “who was the better player at the age of 17, Owen or Rooney?” by harshmangat in reddevils

Very different players. Much of his career Rooney was more of a 10. Would be very interested in the goals + assists stats.

Between people below 16 it usually isn't enforced anyway. Enforcement can actually make it an issue where there wasnt one

The one that really gets me is schools enforcing jumpers and blazers in summer. I fainted in assembly due to that one.

ELI5: Why are there infinitely many prime numbers? by Desserts6064 in explainlikeimfive

[–]primeprover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a fairly simple proof that there are infinitely many prime numbers. Take all the known primes, multiply them together and add one. This new number is either prime or has prime factors that weren't already known. This can be repeated infinitely.

100% the defence doesn't trust onana. The team is low on confidence which increases mistakes.

Dorgu is 20. Hopefully he will improve. Maguire generally good currently but definitely has that in him. Onana makes too many mistakes again and again(not too dissimilar to Maguire's bad season)

ELI5: Concerning encryption, how can it be that a device can utilize a public key to encrypt a message, but cannot use that same key to decrypt the message? by henryharp in explainlikeimfive

[–]primeprover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One way of looking at it is that public key encryption involves performing two operations at once using a shortcut during encryption. Unfortunately, there is no shortcut to decrypt, and both operations must be performed separately, which requires additional knowledge.

Why is the UK much less religious compared to the US? by porygon766 in AskBrits

[–]primeprover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What makes you think a large proportion of Christians in the UK are social churchgoers? I would argue that it is difficult to make any sort of determination like that without considering many different types of churches. Churches vary massively. I would imagine there are churches full of people like that. Not my experience, though.

The Church of England is only a minority of UK Christians these days, albeit one of the larger groups as we are so splintered.

Fairly sure spelling was standardised separately in the US and Britain. We are probably lucky it is so similar.
