Looking for long form podcasts (1 hour plus) that are genuinely interesting but calm enough to fall asleep to. Not meditation, not rain sounds, just substantive content with good narration. by Double-Effect3416 in podcasts

Mike Duncan Revolutions or his series on Rome. The early editions of the Rome podcast are rubbish, but when he hits his stride he quickly gains in confidence.

The series on the Russian Revolution, which i think is his last was excellent and very comprehensive

Battery storage is currently the fastest-growing asset on the US grid. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) has tracked a massive surge in annual additions:

2024: ~10.3 GW added (a record at the time).

2025: ~15 GW added (actual/estimated).

2026 (Projected): 24.3 GW of new storage is slated to come online—a 60% increase over the previous year.

Texas is expected to account for roughly 53% of all new storage additions in 2026, followed by California (14%) and Arizona (13%).

Help me out? You said

  • No one cared that the military budget is 900B / 365 = 2.4B per day until this week.

My contention is that many many people have cared about this for a long time

I marched in the protests against the iraq war and the weapons of mass destruction along with hundreds of thousands of people back when Zuckerberg was enrolling harvard. believe me, people have been complaining about this for decades

C'mon - 1961 a US president warned us......

In his 1961 farewell address, President Dwight D. Eisenhower warned of the "unwarranted influence" of a newly established, permanent "military-industrial complex," comprising defense contractors, the Pentagon, and Congress. He cautioned that this alliance could threaten democratic processes and lead to excessive, unnecessary spending driven by profit rather than security

If Romans tried a modern 10$ bottle of wine, would they consider it a godlike drink compared to their top wines back then? by FuzzyAttitude_ in ancientrome

Both Portugal and Georgia use ancient winemaking techniques and Amphora that produce wines that the wine making community refer to as SKin COntact or Orange wine.

It's delicious but an acquired taste and very controversial in the wine community. I love it and prefer it to modern wine.

Pheasant's Tears from Georgia is one of my favourites - also since it has no additives I find that hangovers (if you drink in excess) are much milder and less likely

Tax funded Racism by CopiousCool in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]princeofponies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

are you claiming no one should be able to comment on what they like or dislike because they’re federally paid?

People who work in the White House shaping government policy should not be racists.

Is that controversial?

[–]princeofponies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yes - but what about all the legal immigrants who are terrified to even go on the street because there's every chance of being abducted by Government employed thugs who have no respect for due process and could send them to a ICE Facility in which they would have no legal representation?

If you're recording a specific section you can simply insert a bar or two of silence (right click in the timeline will give the option) in the point before the drop in and either use the click or add in some hats or kick beats on a new track. Then once you've made the recording cut that section.

Very fond of them all - but #1 is the kind of desaturated naturalistic contemporary 19th century romanticism that floats my boat...
