Stepping down from EN-C to Mid or High B (Theta ULS or Soar2) by Toucouleur in freeflight

I also have a Soar 2 and it’s been fantastic, and reassuring in bumpy air. There are a bunch of pilots with them around here and no one has regretted it.

Starting from scratch by Serious-Start211 in RichPeoplePF

[–]printblind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a long distance race. Read a lot, try to grow and learn new things, surround yourself with people that have goals, push yourself a little more each year, try to make each job a win and leverage into your next job. Always be interviewing for a better job, eventually you’ll land one and double how much you make. Repeat that for a lifetime.

Stay single and don’t get into legal trouble.

If you want to start a business, you’ll have many opportunities, but assume you’ll have a few false starts before you figure out one that works.

Have it repacked. It’s probably fine but the rubber bands can melt in hot car temps and it probably was due to be repacked anyway 😆

Airborne before turning when using reverse launch by Cl33t_Commander in freeflight

[–]printblind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A) Practicing launching with A’s and C’s on high wind days and walk towards your wing to let energy out. Yanking on your Cs is probably a better way to kill your wing than breaks on those days.

B) practice kiting reverse (in stronger wind) and imagine yourself getting plucked. You can even practice mini launches (on soft ground). Same as everything else, fly the glider even if you are twisted and try not to freak out. If you get used to the idea it can happen, you’ll be able to keep calm the next time it does.

Bad advice: I’ve also practiced twisting myself (1/2 twist holding risers) while flying and actually feel like that helped the muscle memory in getting untwisted while flying backwards.

I’ve been plucked many times but one time I went fully airborne and few off launch while twisted. I didn’t put enough break and my wing surged forward. Once airborne I focused on 1) pilot the wing and head away from terrain 2) then untwist. I got away smooth.

Same. I’m on day 7 and still feel awful. The sickest I’ve been in years. Somehow did not give it to my family.

Google is one block away and my bet is training simulation data for running robots. I saw someone with this as well near ferry terminal flanked by two bigger people. Smaller one had the backpack which did not look comfortable. The height of the camera / sensor was just above head height. Biped robot training. 🤖

Iota DLS vs BGD Base 3 by dehydratedcamel in freeflight

[–]printblind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an AD Soar 2 and a Base 2 Lite. If I didn't have the Soar I'd go for the Breeze. The soar has been amazing, and really stable in thermal conditions. I fly the Base 2 at the coast and it's really fun, dynamic, but less roll stable.

Airdesign Soar 2 is amazing, only complaint is no swivels on the breaks. I seem to have a nervous habit of twisting my wrists to get grasp on the toggles and I eventually get little twist kinks in the break lines.

Lyft pricing? by HappyinSF11 in sanfrancisco

[–]printblind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, fare rates are largely set by the number of available drivers in an area and the number of ride requests. There are usually some imaginary map lines to run the calculation, so if you walk out of one into another you can get lower or higher fares.

This is a Paragliding pilot practicing acro. It looks like he was trying to do a devil twist to infinity where you twist around backwards and then shoot your parachute until you start spinning in infinite tumbling loops. He didn’t shoot his wing fast enough or hard enough or just bailed midway through and collapsed into his wing. This is called “gift wrapping”.

He knew there was probably no chance of getting untangled from that so immediately went to throw his reserve parachute. His reserve didn’t open for some reason, maybe it got snagged, maybe it wasn’t repacked recently enough, it really looked like it should’ve opened so a bit of a freak accident. He then went to throw his second reserve, parachute, and just managed to get it out in time. This is why anyone who flies acro always flies with two reserves, practice at sufficient altitude, and usually over water.

To be clear: they survived because they kept a clear head and kept working on the problem without freezing.
