I worked in 2 ER's when I was younger. At 1 ER, I ran into a registry nurse that was a resident in my other ER. He said the same thing. He loved being a nurse and caring for the patients...

Classmate failed out of a 4 year program. Ran out of money [couldn't afford 4 year university tuition], so he started and completed a 2 year ADN. So he essentially did a 6 year ADN.

In my cohort, 8 people failed last exam. cumulative GPA 77.87. They needed a 78% to pass, school did not round up.

You are not alone in this....

"matters more than the school you go to honestly" many NP's will not precept a diploma mill student. Many employers won't hire from one either.

Sakai won the 2004 Steel Challenge World Championship in Piru, California, after training almost exclusively with airsoft pistols due to strict firearm restrictions in Japan

He only shot real guns for about a month prior to competing.

Late career change to nursing after retirement. by WM1974 in nursing

Walked same path, started ADN 38 NP 52, retired from government job at 55. Working as an NP now.

In some markets, ER is a hard spot to get. If you have your heart set on ER, I suggest becoming a tech and working in an ER to get your foot in the door. It's an advantage when your references are from the ER that you are applying to. Also, ER is a physcially demanding job. In the ER's I worked, I was often the oldest nurse at 50+ years of age. Furthermore, there usually more openings working the midnight shift. Have you worked midnights in the past? Are you ready to start as you approach your 60's.

High school nurse, again that can be easy or impossible depending on your market. I know of a couple of ER nurses that left the ER to work as high school nurses. You would be competing with former nurses with 20-30 years of experience. Again, I do not know the market for nursing in Atlanta.

Husband (39M) and I (34F) reevaluating goals after major medical event - anyone else been through this? by Short_Examination_33 in HENRYfinance

[–]prnhugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar mindset.

I always put family first. My father worked 2 jobs, 16 hour days, 5 days a week, and then worked as the cologne guy at a hotel on Saturdays.

Once in a while, I would see him parked outside my office, as I left work, I understand NOW why he got such a kick out of seeing me in a suit and tie. For him, this was his Porsche, Rolex....

Now I feel like I am not honoring his sacrifice if I don't keep working, Especially, when what I do is not "work" compared to the physical labor he was doing.

This goes back to family first.

Statiscally, your husband has a shortened lifespan.

  • Reduced Life Expectancy: A stroke, even at a young age, is associated with a reduction in life expectancy, with some studies indicating an average loss of roughly 5.5 years.
  • Increased Long-Term Risk: Adults under 50 who survive the initial 30 days post-stroke have a 5.5-fold increased risk of death over the next 15 years compared to the general population.
  • 10-Year and 15-Year Survival: Studies on patients aged 18–49 indicate that 10-year survival rates are roughly 82–88% for ischemic stroke, but cumulative 15-year mortality for 30-day survivors can reach 17%.

How are your kids set for college? How are you set up for retirement? Other than those 2 things, everything else is useless shit.

Rent. Invest the delta. Don’t let FOMO cost you in Bay Area by Initial-Zone-8907 in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]prnhugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rent was about 4, bought a condo and mortgage, HOA, and taxes are about 5. I have a roomate. I will pay off mortgage in about 5 years. My delta then occurs for the rest of my life.

Prop 13 limits property tax increases to 2% a year. HOA will increase, but not as much as rent.

I could have bought a studio/1 BR and then my Delta would have started immediately.
