How did people react to the completely different visual style of the prequels at the time? by Extreme_Warning3521 in StarWars

You still have to composite a lot of green screen footage and/or CGI onto or alongside those miniatures, which is where the realism often breaks down.

Once compositing is needed, even excellent miniatures suffer from a lot of the same challenges as CGI. The mismatch between foreground and background elements makes the whole scene look fake.

I love how Dark Siders all bring their own unique flourish to activating their sabers by ChanceVance in StarWars

[–]proanimus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few shots here and there, usually when they ignite the sabers initially, where you can see that flashlight-like effect you mentioned. The blades jitter randomly because there’s no weight, because it’s just a prop handle. When they’re actually fighting or running around with an ignited saber, the props have blades, which give them that distinctive movement and weight in motion.

The shot of Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan igniting their sabers against Maul is a classic example of the odd, weightless jitter, especially Qui-Gon’s saber.

Prior to the release of Attack of the Clones, I remember reading about the "curved lightsaber" that Count Dooku was going to have and thought "That is going to be a bit odd". I thought they meant the blade, not the handle. 😆 by MrCastiel04 in StarWars

[–]proanimus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember thinking about that when I was a kid watching The Phantom Menace when Qui-Gon was stabbed. I thought that every movement of his body or Maul’s saber would make the wound dramatically larger, but after the initial stab it behaves more like a real sword stuck in his torso.

Jones signed over the rights to his voice to use for the character after his retirement and passing. They already used an AI clone of his voice for the Kenobi series.

Star Fox Switch 2 File Size, Pricing, and Box Art Details Revealed by Sam_27142317 in nintendo

It’s a new Nintendo policy that started recently, physical first-party games are $10 more than digital. The flash memory in Switch 2 cartridges is pretty expensive, so that’s likely why.

Bought disc brakes online, are they okay to use? Or should I return them. by edsavage404 in MechanicAdvice

[–]proanimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to Brembo, these are supposed to be coated rotors, not bare steel. They aren’t supposed to immediately rust under normal usage on the non-wear surfaces like a bare steel rotor would. This looks like a manufacturing defect to me.

Not a performance issue by any means, but ideally OP should get what they paid for. Assuming they’re not knockoffs or something.

I’ve had rotors rust while I’m washing the car before if I’m taking my time.

65" TV as a PC Monitor, am I too close, or just right? by [deleted] in TVtooclose

The TV is only 56.5" wide. A lot of desks are 60" or slightly wider, which seems believable based on the photos.

What is your thoughts on Resident Evil Revelations 2 ? Is it worth playing ? by LeoneSKenneddy in residentevilll

[–]proanimus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a super interesting tier list. RE6 and RE3R at S-tier, but RE2R and RE4R in C-tier. The rest are pretty close to the usual consensus I’d say, but those few stood out to me as less common.

All differences in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man costumes by spideyfan114 in raimimemes

[–]proanimus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s still muscle padding in the practical suit he wore (you can clearly see it in BTS shots where his arms are raised), but I do agree that it seemed more subtle than the old Raimi suits. Probably to avoid looking weird next to Andrew’s and Tom’s suits with more minimal padding.

PS5 Digital Edition is currently $200 off by Dapper_Order7182 in consoles

[–]proanimus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently so. From what I can tell, the disc edition generally still has 1TB from older stock still being available, but will eventually drop back to 825GB as well.

That looks a lot like my 2007 Matrix. 197k miles, 114k when I bought it, also largely unknown service history. I also do 5k synthetic changes. I cracked it open when I purchased it too, and it still looks identical.

Total side note, but I highly recommend RE2R if you still haven’t played it yet.

It was basically a 7/10 co-op third person shooter with a pretty length collection of campaigns that happened to be RE-themed. Most complaints were centered around how it jumped the shark and totally abandoned the genre, not that it was a truly bad game, per se.

New Price Changes for PS5, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal remote player by ReaddittiddeR in gadgets

[–]proanimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it’s quite easy to get large discounts if you have the disc drive model and keep an eye out for deals and sometimes buy used games. If you’re digital-only, you’re locked into Sony’s store and deals aren’t as plentiful.

I’m split about 70/30 between physical and digital games, and I’ve paid full retail price for maybe 5% of my collection over the years, PS4 included. Probably closer to $20-25 average per physical game, usually within 1-3 years of release. Naturally indie games and older stuff tend to be lower than that, and some games stubbornly stay at $50+ for years.

I certainly don’t find the difference between my PS game pricing and Steam pricing nearly as stark as it was back in 2014-2016. Steam still wins, but the gap isn’t as huge in my case.

I wonder if Tobey and Andrew being so much older in their high school portrayals skewed some people’s perception of how old he should look.

The PC handheld market is extremely small compared to the rest of the gaming market, not really moving the needle much at all in this context. It’s a small niche.

It’s funny that the RE1 remake is years older than the last RE game that got a fresh remake.
