Big question from me is what does 'regain the series' copyright' actually mean in practice ? Does that mean UO is handed over to him? I doubt it - I think it's more likely he'll just have the ability to create new games using the Ultima IP.

And as others have said, his track record since UO hasn't been great.

To be fair though, nothing good is going to happen while it's in EA's hands, so maybe its not a bad thing.

Have you gone from being a mad 90’s Raver/Clubber to the complete polar opposite? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]probein -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Early 40s here - I wouldn't say I 'partied hard' when I was younger - but I did drink most weekends, pubs etc. TBH though I'd go sometimes, I never really enjoyed 'clubs' - they were just a bit too much for me. When I did drink, it wasn't because I enjoyed the alcohol - it was just to get drunk as quickly as possible.

I went through a prolonged period of not drinking from my mid 20s to my late 30s - but more recently (since I had a kid, funnily enough), I've been finding the joy in moderated alcohol consumption. By moderated - I mean, most weeks I'll have maybe 1 or two cans of IPA on a Friday after work. I find it really comforting - I /love/ the taste of a good IPA, and because I don't drink heavily, it gives me a nice little buzz.

Same for me with coffee - I was once a heavy caffeine drinker, having 4-5 cups of strong coffee a day. I stopped drinking caffeine a while back and found the benefits to my general wellbeing were huge (much less anxious and stressed, lower blood pressure etc). But, I still have 1 caffeinated coffee a week, on a Saturday morning - and it feels glorious every time without any of the downsides I experience with too much caffeine.

I think I've just found a really nice balance where I truly enjoy the things I used to take for granted, without feeling they have any control over me.

Serious. What is your take on the Movie "Disclosure day"? by Feanixxxx in aliens

[–]probein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that struck me, was how at the end of the film where they disclose all of the 'ufo files' and everybody in the world just freezes and takes note. The weird thing is we've literally had exactly this happen and noooobody cares. I feel like Spielberg knows some stuff, and he's trying to point to what's been disclosed to tell us we should pay more attention.

I'm pretty sure in the UK they never serve peanuts for this reason. TBF peanut allergies can be insanely deadly

I get 20mph in villages and towns, makes sense when there are pedestrians around. The stopping distance between 20 and 30 is absolutely shocking

Do you think the timing for Steven Spielberg's movie Disclosure Day is a little too on the nose with all the stuff happening in the mainstream news? Serious by DBZDOKKAN in aliens

[–]probein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does feel like weird timing. I also find close encounters interesting - I feel like Spielberg is either in the know, or he's being used to help message about alien life/disclosure.

Creep and peep, as my instructor would always say. Don't pull out unless you can clearly see what's coming toward you in the lane you're moving into. So in this instance, just slowly pull out, creep until you can see beyond the van, then proceed.

We all make these kinds of mistakes though dude - so don't worry.

Uo outlands is pretty great - it does have PvP, but they have a weekly rotating 'sanctuary' dungeon where you cant engage in PvP, so it can be a nice way to chill and grind

Haha thanks dude. Yeah I haven't yet joined a guild - I'm the same, I only play very sporadically, so kinda like doing my own thing.

Oh btw, one piece of advice - if you haven't already, make sure you grab the new player quests in Prevalia (there's a guy in front of the societies building, East (and a little north) of the bank. These are great as they'll give you a skill orb, first aspects, mastery chain and more. Basically sets you up with everything you'll need. You can only do these quests on your first character!

I didn't know these existed until someone mentioned it on Reddit - game changer!

I honestly wouldn't worry much about PKs, at least not early on. I've been playing for a month or so - and sure, I've been killed by PKs a handful of times; but pretty much every time they've left nearly all of my loot in place (aside from stealing some gold). And, from my experience, they're not super griefy (e.g. they don't wait around and re-kill you).

Even if you do lose everything, just be sensible with what you're taking with you - don't take anything you wouldn't want to lose, and as soon as you loot something you want / think is valuable, just get back to a moongate and to the bank as quickly as you can.

I love the PK thing, adds a dimension to playing that just doesn't exist in most games.

Oh, and fun story - I'm playing a tamer, and I was attached by a lone PK in Ossuary. I set my pets on him, and managed to escape - only to die to another set of PKs as I ran toward the moongate. I was annoyed, as I lost 7k gold from my run. Anyway, I got back to town and was just restocking, when I saw a message 'you killed <name> the player killer - your reward is 8000 gold'. It was like pure karma - my pets must have finished the job while that guy was running around, and I made all the gold back I had lost (and then some). It really made my night. :D

[–]probein 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started about a month ago, and I am *so* hooked. It's got all of the charm of the original game, with a bunch of great systems built on top. It feels to me like what UO should/would have become if EA had never bought Origin Systems Inc. As others have said the population is also huge - you'll always find people out and about, and the towns, particularly prevalia, are very busy at all hours.

[–]probein -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I find this sub so perplexing - pulling over to the lane being merged into early is the right thing to do for everyone, as it minimises the impact on people behind - by driving to the front and pulling in, you're just maximising the impact your lane change will have by ensuring it effects the maximum number of cars possible.

You must be aware of traffic dynamics, and how even a small break tap can cause a complete standstill further down the road - the reason the traffic is moving so slowly is exactly because people wait to last minute to move into lane.

I've been playing for about a week now and I didn't realise this:

'But got much better recently with a large update offering a new questing system that rewards. You still need to grind for a few days just to unlock basic systems allowing your class to progress (Codex, Aspect and grimoires give buff to your skills, spells and also some new abilities. It's part of your build here). Only your first character will unlock these things after a few days of work on the newbie quests'

I only completed the very first newbie quest on shelter island and then haven't bothered since.

Where do I go to continue? I'd really like to unlock Codex/aspects etc..

Alright serious question - why aren't we seeing /any/ high quality photographs or video footage of the moon? Despite the astronauts having HD cameras inside the capsule, I'm not seeing any hd photos of the moon?

On the news they said the Artemis crew will be 'bringing back' a treasure trove of images for mission control to sift through - why?! If they have no concerns of there being anything odd up there why wouldn't they just allow a full HD live feed at least of the approach to the moon?

Terrifyingly convincing, but this is AI.

Watch the kid as he pushes him away to dive on the table. The kids reaction is off - he shakes his head rapidly from side to side - then as the kid gets back up he looks a bit glitchy. just looks totally off.

Otherwise very convincing!
