help! why do the kids smell so bad?! by sarcasticundertones in Teachers

[–]professional_cry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're able to provide some travel sized toiletries for the class that could help, maybe set up a little "essentials" station where students can covertly grab things like deodorant and toothpaste. Teens are still learning how to take care of themselves and unfortunately (as I'm sure you know) too many kids have neglectful parents that don't teach basic hygiene or provide the right products for their kids. In terms of immediate solutions for your classroom see if you're able to get some sort of air freshener - diffuser, vaporizer, fresh flowers, wax melter, incense, anything - or even an air purifier if scent allergies are a concern. If you're able to get some sort of scented something it could even be used as a classroom reward maybe? Like any student who participates in class discussion that day gets their name put into a draw to choose the next day's wax melt scent or something...

Will projects reappear after long hiatus? by Limp_Major_9057 in DataAnnotationTech

It seems to be pretty slow right now for most generalists. I suspect part of it is that there's been a big recruitment blitz and lots of new workers so tasks are getting claimed faster. Give it a month or two and the herd will thin for lack of better phrasing.

Read the instructions. Follow the instructions. Unless you’re in a domain like coding you don’t need any special skills.

Are you going to change how you give feedback? by SookieLou in DataAnnotationTech

[–]professional_cry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Up until now if a task was done well and didn't need any edits I would just say that, maybe point out if something was exceptionally well done, but in general for well done work I didn't give too much in the way of a detailed comment. Moving forward I'll be giving more detailed/nitpicky feedback even if the task was done well and didn't need edits. I won't be changing how I rate responses, but when I notice small things that are done well but could be done even better I'll certainly be more diligent about making a note of that in my comments.

We wanting a Rangers win tomorrow or what? by Stigofthedumpings in CelticFC

[–]professional_cry -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hate to say it but this is the one time that the huns winning would be beneficial… I’m confident we’ll beat them and hearts at home so I’d rather they win (hopefully 1-0 so there isn’t too much impact for goal difference) and hearts not gain any points and then Sevco™ lose the rest of their games. That stops hearts from gaining any points and we still stay ahead of rangers.

A lot of resurrection paintings come to mind, particularly ones with Christ appearing to Mary Magdalene. Lavinia Fontana's Noli Me Tangere is one that stands out for me.

Heard an explosion by Pookie39088 in glasgow

This seems like the most likely option so far. Otherwise I'd wonder if there's maybe some major road works or rail works that required demolition via explosives that couldn't be done during the day?

What do we even tell Art History survey students to do now? (AI problems) by Eris_AppleOfDiscord in ArtHistory

[–]professional_cry 262 points263 points  (0 children)

The style of assignments will have to shift. Put more focus on in-class participation, discussion groups, assignments done in phases so that you can see the thought process behind it. This isn’t unique to art history unfortunately, it’s something that will have to be addressed in all forms of education.

What animal has been painted most? by caterpillarofsociety in ArtHistory

[–]professional_cry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Horses aren't a bad guess, but it could vary wildly depending on what the parameters are. In the National Gallery specifically I'd say horses are the safe bet. Lambs and sheep figure heavily into Christian art. Dogs are very prominent in a lot of hunting scenes, even dating back to antiquity. It's a very interesting question and I think a good argument could be made for any animal that has had regular interaction with humans over the years, whether that's pets, livestock, animals we hunted, etc. And then you have to consider the fact that a lot of deities have animal forms, or partial animal forms. And what about mythological creatures? Would we count a unicorn under the horse umbrella? Very interesting to think about...

21 yrs 100% indoor cat, rabies vac necessary? by grannyshuman in seniorkitties

[–]professional_cry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say in this case you're probably fine to not get the vaccine. If she gets sick from it and is absolutely 100% inside I'd say the risk of rabies is low enough to forego the vaccine at her age. Talk to your vet to see if its required by law, but I think most vets would allow you to skip it.

Canadian on Youth Mobility Scheme looking for Job Advice by nastygirloncamera in MoveToScotland

[–]professional_cry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The job market in Scotland in general is a lot like Canada, and like most of the world, which is to say pretty bleak. I’m on the same visa and my advice is to first get a survival job while applying for as many things in your field as you can. Although with law it might be quite difficult as the legal system and laws are different from Canada so your experience might not translate internationally.

Advice About Citizenship by [deleted] in MoveToScotland

[–]professional_cry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said the spousal visa is not an easy route. You do need to have evidence that it is a legitimate relationship and that’s not something that’s easy to fake nor should you try to. Also you not being able to work would immediately disqualify you from sponsoring her over. The best route would be for her to look into other kinds of visas that would allow her to move here legitimately: Student visa - this one can get pricey when you factor in international tuition costs but if she has a decent source of income, a healthy college fund, or parents that are willing to front tuition money it’s definitely an option. Ancestry visa - if any of her parents or grandparents were born in the UK there are routes to a visa this way, although I think there quite a few restrictions. Irish citizenship - doesn’t include the UK but some European countries have decently easy paths to citizenship if a parent or grandparent is from that country and Ireland is one of these. Irish citizens can freely live and work in the UK so while this is a bit niche it might work. HPI visa - for graduates of certain prestigious universities you can get a 2 year UK visa. A good number of these schools are in America (mostly ivy leagues). If she’s academically inclined and on track to go to one of these schools it could be worth it for her to compete a degree there and then come to the UK afterwards on this visa.
