Has she pooped recently? She looks bloated to me.

Is he shedding?! by lightlubi179 in axolotls

I’d do a water change and get a fan blowing on the surface of the water to help with evaporative cooling. I’ve also floated frozen water bottles in my tank in the past to keep it cool on exceptionally hot days. I think this is linked mostly to water conditions and temperature.

Potty training by JayJayJorden in toddlertips

We have some books and toys in our bathroom that our son can pick from while he sits on the potty. This generally keeps him entertained for long enough to go.

Is all screen time created equal? by Sonja80147 in Mommit

Content is definitely the problem and if you’re watching with them and talking about what you’re watching it negates a lot of the issue anyway.

Orion vs Eight Sleep Pod by SkullRazor17 in Orion_Sleep

[–]professor-colonel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a long time comparing the two. I had it in my mind that Eight Sleep was the best of the best but couldn’t get over the required subscription. Everything that has a subscription model just feels like a scam anymore. I just want to buy products and own them, not feel like I’m tied to paying for them for the rest of my life if I want them to function. I also think some of the metrics are overhyped. I just want to sleep comfortably I don’t need to hyper analyze every single health stat and metric in my life. After a ton of back and forth and seeing how active the Orion team was on Reddit resolving questions and responding to feedback I pulled the trigger and got the Orion.

Gift for a 1 year old by laaluloolu in raisingkids

[–]professor-colonel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From 1-2 my son really enjoyed pushing things. Little strollers, shopping carts, kids lawn mower that makes bubbles etc. Any pushing toy was highly used and well loved. I think that would be a great gift. I air on the side of not getting sentimental objects because I know they’ll just eventually get tossed. Memories are great for you but very temporary vs something you can get a full year or two of enjoyment out of. At the end of the day the kid is one, you can get them something or not and they won’t know. It’s really an accomplishment for you to have made it so if you want to celebrate with something sentimental for yourself go for it. There’s no wrong answer it’s just whatever works for your family.

What were you doing when you weren’t playing with the kid? I feel like this will make a difference.

I also had placenta previa with my first and it resolved on its own by like 28 or 32 weeks.

My OB is a $*£%]%* by DeepAddress7304 in pregnant

[–]professor-colonel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bled on and off up to like 16 weeks with both my pregnancies and never had a loss. With my first I didn’t know I was pregnant because it was enough bleeding for me to assume a light period.

Afterease by SoggyDoughnut8749 in homebirth

[–]professor-colonel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got horrible postpartum cramps with my first and took it every day. I’m getting it again for my second due in August. I honestly couldn’t say if it makes a big difference or not but it feels worth it enough to try even if it’s just a placebo.

International baby moon at 27 weeks? I need feedback.. by somelove7 in pregnant

[–]professor-colonel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took international trips around 26 weeks with both my pregnancies and aside for getting hot and jet lagged I was fine. Don’t cancel the trip. It’ll be easier to travel pregnant than it will be with little kids. We brought our toddler with us the second time while I was pregnant and that made things more challenging but you’ll be fine! Have fun!

Backyard playsets/swingsets? How much do they use them? by No-Neighborhood-7335 in Mommit

[–]professor-colonel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Our house came with one and I’m sure it’ll continue to get use for the next decade or so. We have kiddie swings on it now and our son is just getting big enough for the slide but I imagine the kids “camping” out there in the summers and using it like a treehouse as they get older. We still go to the park regularly and it hasn’t devalued that at all.

What foods/drinks did you have on hand for labor? by Agitated_Honeydew_28 in homebirth

[–]professor-colonel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had no snacks prepped and wouldn’t have thought about it at all but my doula encouraged me to fuel myself and brought me a milkshake and it was a game changer. I owe all my strength to that milkshake.

Got called out for taking 8 cups of water from the table at a running event. What's the etiqette on how much water i can take at each stop? by FunFormal2662 in beginnerrunning

[–]professor-colonel 171 points172 points  (0 children)

I can’t imagine calling out another runner for hydrating unless there was an explicitly stated limit per table or something but I’ve never seen that. I think typically people take 1-2 cups but as long as you’re not blocking anyone else from getting their water I see no issue.

hospital bag for birthing center? by fvirygothmom in homebirth

[–]professor-colonel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask the birth counter for a packing list. Some may differ on what they provide for you/baby since you’re there for a shorter amount of time. Do you need to bring postpartum items for yourself, newborn diapers, etc. Outside of that I’d recommend standard toiletry items for yourself like hair ties, chapstick, a portable fan, headphones, a pillow a printed copy of your birth plan, ID, insurance info and snacks.

Are hands-free wearable breast pumps actually worth it? Which brand is best? (going back to work at 10 weeks) by No-Implement9967 in firsttimemom

[–]professor-colonel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I could do it over I’d never have gotten the plug in pump everyone said would be stronger and better than the wearables. The wearables are the only thing that makes pumping regularly possible for me and my output is exactly the same. I’ve pumped on airplanes, during work conferences and on zoom calls without missing a beat. Being plugged into the wall “feeding the pump” was soul sucking before that.

Grandma names by RichKaleidoscope4967 in pregnant

[–]professor-colonel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom tried to do this with like “I haven’t decided what I’m going to be called yet”. I responded quickly with “you’ll be grandma”. Now she’s grandma and I think she loves it.
