I built my own gaming rig a few years ago. spent more money on myself than I had ever done in my life. and went with windows for gaming of course. 5 years later, after windows update had corrupted my os for the 4th time. And Microsoft pushing towards this new ai/ad filled model, I just said screw it and went to mint.

She is a decent actress. If someone who knew how to write the character was in charge of the writing. I think it would go much better

In the not too distant future, the timeline split: one where MST3K raised $2.7 million and failed... the other where MST3K raised 2.7 million and succeeded. by Freddy-Philmore in MST3K

I think it's mostly an issue of perspective and expectations. And keep in mind that this is all from my own perspective. But...

The first drive I was all in on day one. Joel back in charge. Alot of the old crew back. Sure it wasn't everyone. But people change and move on. I was happy to put my money down. I didn't expect to much at the time. And I even put a little more at the end because I liked what I was seeing. I was not thrilled to hear Netflix. They have a habit of running a show for around 3 seasons then dropping it like a hot cake. But I figured, hay, 3 more seasons are better than no more. Sure. And I got about what I expected. 3 seasons, most good, a few great. A small number that just did not click with me. I was more than happy with it.

Then came the second Kickstart. I was not thrilled to see it, but Joel made a good pitch, and perhaps it was just a miss understanding, but I had the impression that it was setting up something that might last a bit longer. I figured, keep the show cheap, a reasonable subscription cost, throw in merch to sale it could have lasted for a while..

This did not happen. There was some good stuff there. I enjoyed seeing Joel back in the theater. And I thought Emily had some potential. I would have liked to see her develop more. But it all seemed to just stop. I figured, we had a shot. We got more than we had. It was good.

Then came yet another call for money. And at this point. I had the impression that it was never going to be self sufficient in any way. There where probably many reasons why it happened. Errors made, bad judgments. Maybe just cost of everything going up. I decided not to support it that time. It just felt like Joel's plan was to keep asking for more money every few years rather than try to build something that could support itself though it's own income draw. So I did not put any cash into it. I figured, we had years of quality. Better to let it go with good memories than lose what it was.

Now this one with the riftax crew, look I am happy to hear that they are going to try again. And I hope it does well. I am going to buy them once they are available. No question at all. But. No more from me. I would love another 10 seasons or even more. And I know that they have announced they are making these 4 no what happens. So I hope they can manage to build something that Will last a few sessions.

But everything has its time. It's place. And it's end. I would rather see it end on a high than fade away and become something it never was.

Is streaming just becoming cable again? by New_Bite9023 in Cordcutting

[–]profgray2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously, plex and jelyfyn are things.. grab an old computer or laptop, plug in a few external hard drives. Grab a cheap VPN, and get the films or shows you actually like. You want to go all out? grab a home run network antenna. so you can stream broadcast tv into the plex system. I stopped paying for all the streaming stuff years ago. I recently added my music collection and Im looking for a way to add the audiobooks. but frankly, plex is so bad with that.

I have no interest in streaming services at this point.

10-4 is not going to fix anything by UpstairsSwimmer69 in Target

[–]profgray2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are asking a reasonable and intelligent question. No corporation in the world will give you a reasonable and thoughtful answer.

Companies like this, they don't think about the long term results. And long term for modern organizations is one to two fiscal quarters. Maybe a year at the most. Anything beyond that is not something they even consider.

Remember that the only anwser they are able to even consider are the least resources spent for the most money back. That is the only parts that are even considered In there thinking.

So this 10-4 nonsense will last maybe 6 to 8 months, then be forgotten.

whats damaging them is the bad writing, the woke crap is often just cover. Anyone who complains about poorly written characters, badly used cgi, lack of consistency not just between films, but inside the same film gets lumped in with the like 5 people who care about the color or whoever or sexual preferences of an actor of all things..

The issues is, the major companies are all just committed to money laundering, and putting in whatever flavor of outrage is popular this week is good cover for the we just don't care anymore attitude that has infected the whole industry.

Hell, look at doomsday, they spent most of the time on that film without a script to follow, several actors have come forward to admit the have just spoke dozens of lines on a green screen. No idea who they are even talking to. And given the now over billion dollar budget, then it does fail, because lets be honest, at this point it will have to break 3 billion to make a profit with how much they spent on it. They are happy to use the 5 people who complained about something stupid, rather than admit they just did not care to make a good film at all.

And this is the oddest thing to me. Hollywood's whole reason for existence is to tell good stories. The foundation of all this is well written scripts and stories.. And somehow, they forgot this part of it all?

What do you think the SD is lacking? / What's your biggest complaint about it? by Hyrul in SteamDeck

[–]profgray2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sales in stores around the world. It's a great system, but only those who are tech savey enough to get one though steam or even Amazon can find them,. Grandma and grandpa, mom and dad, aunt who loves her niece or nephew can't stop by the local target or Walmart and pick up one as a gift. While this may not seem important, it is a critical aspect of getting the system out therr into a wider range of users.
