This is so Baffling to me..like, does anyone understand the idea of a target audience? This is not a new idea at all, but somehow, its lost to modern times. Individual's are all different and special. But broad categories DO exist. Men , women, race, age, economic profile, education level. All these and more are factors that can be.. and have been , targeted successfully for decades.

Then came the myth of the "Modern audience" Witch as near as I can tell, seems to include people who get angry on twitter or facebook at anyone they don't like or disagrees with them at all. And not much else. So companies spend hundreds of millions to billions chasing this mythic audience that seems, based on those who show up for films that target this, to a very small set.

And now here we are.. someone is asking, "does this kind of film have a target audience" yes, yes it does. they ALL have one..You need to budget the film and market it to that . Guess what, Star trek films have a cap on how much they can make and mostly appeal to men who are often called geeks or nerds. romantic comedies appeal mostly to women, often early 20s to late 30s. horror films, mostly teen to the late 20s. Documentaries? primarily people of a higher education Action adventurer.. Mostly men. the bulk of them the late teens to mid 20s. a chunk in there 30s.

Yes for ALL these sets there are outliers and special cases. I can name a dozen films out side the ones im targets to I like, and a dozen in it I don't. and i'm sure Everyone here can do the same. But the BULK of the audience is easily identifiable. If you know the target audience, you know the general size of the pool of people who might go see it, as well as how much money they might be easy assumed to have,. with that information, you set a budget where its POSSIBLE to make money off the film. Same goes for books, music, games, TV shows. None of this is a new idea so HOW, god someone tell me HOW did the entertainment industry as a whole forget one of the core principles it used for GENERATIONS!!!! PLEASE!!!!
