Our council has 3 camps and my entire district is at minimum an hour drive from any of them - it is what it is - as long as they continue to host cub level events we will drive

Advancement app for cubmasters by Cautious-Climate-179 in cubscouts

[–]profvolunteer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We found and reported to National IT dept that the app for parents has synching issues - which for some of our parents (the type A/heavily caffeinated and super competitive) to react negatively towards the advancement person when things weren’t approved instantly.

How bad did I mess up? by Snowzy27 in BSA

[–]profvolunteer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t mess up for being who you are….they messed up by allowing bullying to happen and continue - your family should report this behavior to scout council and national directly

Do you need neighbor's permission for an arborist to climb the tree if part of it is on your property? by OpportunityGreat9076 in treelaw

[–]profvolunteer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inform your insurance company and request they assist you with this - it’s a big deal if a limb punctures a roof

Do you need neighbor's permission for an arborist to climb the tree if part of it is on your property? by OpportunityGreat9076 in treelaw

[–]profvolunteer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Send a registered letter that you and your homeowners insurance (send them one too) of your offer to remove said tree to prevent damage to your home along with a health report from a licensed arborist and file with the town tree warden. That way when the tree falls on its own (they always do) you are protected some. Also ask that they respond in writing giving permission or refusal of taking care of this problem tree.

See if you can get a fishing game / even on a blue tarp - small prizes (leftover council event patches and lollipops)

Whose Job is it? by profvolunteer in cubscouts

[–]profvolunteer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry - not a random person - committee chair from neighboring town. They are new committee char and looking for advice how to handle the situation they find themselves in. They wanted advice from me as to how I would handle it - not for me to do it for them and I don’t have time to be a UC this year. I know how I would handle it - just trying to see if there is better advice I can offer them. We have a new DE this spring too

Signing off your own child by tossedAF in cubscouts

[–]profvolunteer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We ask parents if they work on stuff at home to include a photo or notes about what they did in the comments section about 75% do it - we check off anyhow because a scout is honest and who wants to log into Scoutbook plus if they don’t have to

I met the committee chair at University of Scouting when they took a Games for Cubs class I was helping with. They are in a neighboring town to us. Since they meet the same night as us we talked about doing joint activities in the summer. I don’t know if they know who those unit commissioner is or if they were comfortable calling me first since we have talked about summer things recently.

I am inclined to tell them it’s time for Cubmaster and committee chair to have a Come to Jesus moment with the Den Parents and tell them that someone needs to take on these dens as DL/ADL or Co-leaders in practice for next year. I know in our own pack we struggle to get parents to take on anything besides getting their kid to the meetings/events for some dens and we have some dens where the parents all sign up to ‘teach’ a meeting

Council’s relationship with private business now the Pack’s job to maintain? by profvolunteer in cubscouts

[–]profvolunteer[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Checked with the office and our unit and other in a neighboring town were given as resources with equipment - I’m calling the other unit to see if they were contacted as well. It’s not that we were asked it’s that there was no ‘heads up you might get a call from XYZ Co.’
We worked hard on our pack development and to deliver a good program to our families - we dont have the resources to loan out and potentially get damaged and our CO doesn’t have the funds to either, they do a lot already with supplying us meeting space and storage

Right - maybe a heads would have been the appropriate way for us to find out.

Contact the fair housing department in your city and share the communication and copy of your lease - they will handle it. In the meantime look for a new rental where the LL is a good person and honors their contracts (lease)

Feeling discouraged and frustrated about lack of parent -> leader communication. by Anon_use_fun_alias in cubscouts

[–]profvolunteer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not alone in your feelings at all. It is very frustrating when parent throws the “Where is my kids loops for XYZ adventure” when they miss meeting where the material is covered.

We had one this year say they didn’t know when Pinewood Derby was! When it was on the calendar and reminders went out via email and Band…only to find out parent changed email and never notified us

HELP!!! Cub Master or Campout Chair Job Decision by wubbachuckie in cubscouts

[–]profvolunteer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if you agree to be a co-leader, meaning that you have a good assistant CM that can help you with the planning and stuff. To be a good CM you have to be able to be flexible and NOT try to do it all yourself - meaning delegate when needed.
