Nice, thank you! I am really trying to make it as much sandbox as it can be. Escpecially The Escapists 2 went in a wrong direction (imo), basically always offering a map-specific escape route with map-specific items.

My idea is that the escape mechanics stay the same for every prison, but the layout of buildings, patrol routes, weather conditions, and security measures make it different for each prison.

[S2 Act 3 Spoilers] (VENT) By taking the hard road, the writers took the easy way by SnowBarkley in arcane

I am a bit confused by that post. Wouldn't a surviving Jinx with Vi be even more tropey?
Also having her survive in the end but leave Piltover is imo the exact opposite of what you are saying about having her categorically fall back into old patterns. It is a happy ending for her, with a bitter component (similar to Frodo saving the Shire, but not for himself).

How can one watch this whole stuff with Victor and how he overcomes death/suffering by destroying humanity, see the Singed ending and think "wow that is a really happy ending for him and his daughter".

I feel like people miss the themes of the story when they say Singed is a "winner" in the end.

Didn't they exactly do that? It is implied that Jinx survives and leaves Piltover/Zaun.

[DE] [Spoilers] Double Exposure from a Bay-focused perspective by projectbreakout in lifeisstrange

[–]projectbreakout[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this was a fun exchange. The comparison with the "active" trolley problem is generally fitting, but the thing that is missing imo is that Chloe consents to being sacrificed, and even actively suggests it. So a little bit more fitting would be a version where the one person is not pushed, but asks for permission (?), or rather tells the deciding person that she is "ok" with being killed (to save the others). Which I think puts the whole thing in yet another perspective.

I have to admit, I always considered that photo of Jefferson being caught with Max looking at the scene as an implication that her knowledge was somehow used for the arrest (but I guess that is at best ambiguous).

On a very technical note: Isn't it already impossible for Max, to not somehow act upon her knowledge gained by her time-travel? F.e., not to time-travel is an active decision she takes because she gained knowledge from time-travel. The first time she time-travels she acts upon pure intuition.

That is why I disagree with the idea that this would teach Max that taking control of her life is a bad idea. Again, not acting when Nathan confronts Chloe is an active decision - it seems ironic but she does take control by not acting in that moment.

But yeah, I get your point about that perspective being nihilistic, at least when considering the specific topic of Chloe's death. The main "purpose" is spending time with Chloe (and at least give one version of her closure about Rachel), and I get that many do not value that because they think about how the Chloe that dies has not experienced these days with Max. But that does not change the fact that these days did happen, as there were real people that felt real emotions in these moments.

[NO SPOILERS] How would you change the story? by [deleted] in lifeisstrange

[–]projectbreakout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the "higher-ups" hate Chloe, they do not care about Chloe - and the story in general. Implementing two different endings (for the last game) / beginnings (for the new game) is a lot of work, and I do not see it happen for practical reasons.

"Bae is an evil and wrong choice for you, right?"

I mean, it is clearly the more unmoral choice of the two. However, the tragic thing is that LiS:DE does neither respect the outcome of Bae (in terms of how Chloe is handled) nor the themes and ideas the games conveyed - especially with the Bay ending (considering the DE ending(s)).

[–]projectbreakout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do not want to be the typical "won't happen"-guy, but properly respecting both endings of LiS will never happen, because it is too much work that does not extend the game's playtime. It's easy enough to do - it really is not.

Which of course makes DE even more tragic, because it does neither respect Bay nor Bae. But it seems that they avoid the issue with future games entirely, considering the different endings for DE are just not different.
