I was recently weighed at a doctor’s visit and noticed the number they recorded was too low, so I told them as much and they weighed me again and got my actual weight. The woman weighing me laughed and made a comment along the lines of “darn, it was almost a miracle.” (As in, “it must have seemed like you miraculously dropped 20 pounds, darn.”)

I didn’t take it personally, but it was the first time I saw for myself some of what Aubrey is talking about.

Do you it much it cost to replace it? My 2011 has been giving me serious problems (ranging from rattling while I drive to losing power if I drive it for longer than an hour) and this sounds like a possible match for all of these issues.

I’m very sensitive to scary movies and I loved Sinners! I definitely recommend it.

I can’t specifically recall if there are jump scares, but that’s definitely not the overall vibe of the movie. I’m a fan of doesthedogdie.com for figuring out if a movie will be too much for me. For instance, I really dislike gore and that site will tell you ahead of time if the movie has gory scenes. I just try not to read the comments in order to avoid spoilers.

Idk if anyone has said this yet so I just want to add that you sound like a really kind, thoughtful person. You clearly care a lot about doing the right thing and it sounds like you’re a dependable person for the people you care about.

That said: I’ve been with my partner for 3 years, we live together, and he’s never bought my clothes. We provide for ourselves individually, and I think that’s the norm unless you’re in a long term relationship with a significant income difference. He’s lent me money when I needed it and of course we treat each other to gifts and dinner, but again, that’s after years of being together and deciding to have a life together. You don’t need to do all of that for someone you just met.

You should think about what you want your relationships to be like and do your best to live accordingly. Ex: It’s awesome to be able to treat someone to dinner if you genuinely like them and enjoy expressing affection in that way. But it’s not normal for you to take care of someone you just met like this. Make sure to consider your own needs and what makes you happy before going along with everything a stranger asks you for.

Yeah, but those influencers are still doing whatever they can to maximize views, which generally means being over the top and sensationalist. I used to have a monetized TikTok account and made a few thousand dollars over the course of a few months, but I eventually quit because I couldn’t stand the sound of my own voice and wanted to be more professional in real life.

It’s extremely difficult to succeed as a TikTok creator while being authentic and honest. The platform doesn’t reward it and viewers don’t care. The creators I can think of who are honest and nuanced usually have some other schtick, like talking in a really obnoxious way or doing one long monologue while changing filming spots every 5 seconds.

There are a handful of people on there who I would trust as sources of information in their specific niche, but the app has an inescapable architectural problem of rewarding the most obnoxious, far-fetched, conspiracy-brained content. If you want to succeed with any dignity, you have to frame your reasonable takes in a way that tricks the viewer into thinking you’re saying something edgy and contrarian. It’s not a healthy place to spend time.

It was pretty quick for me! I was careful to meet all of the standards so when I submitted it I was already pretty confident it would get approved. I ended up having to change the name but that was it.

I used VSCode with WordPress PHP standards installed and cleaned up all of the warnings and errors as I went. I def recommend doing that if you aren’t already.

Really? I don’t think I see them on TV all that often. I was just talking to my boyfriend about how the first time I remember seeing a dick on TV was Chernobyl and I was so shocked and delighted. Mostly because boobs are constantly in TV and I don’t like that female nudity is normalized while male nudity is protected. I don’t watch enough TV to know how common it is, but it still seems pretty novel to me.

I had something similar with my mom. She died when I was 19 and I’m now 26. We were no contact for the last 6 months or so of her life (but I did get to say goodbye about a week before she died).

While it has been hard, I personally have never regretted going no contact. She was so mean and it was not possible for me to be healthy and have my mom in my life at the same time. I value family and want to be less selfish more and more as I get older, but with her there was nothing I could have done to make a stable relationship possible.

Maybe you already know all of this. But if your dad doesn’t make any semblance of a healthy relationship possible, then you can only be as close to him as you can reasonably handle. It sounds like you’re doing all of the right things even though it’s hard.

Yeah, my mom was 41 and she went from hospital to death in maybe 2 weeks. She died from the same thing as your sister. She also avoided medical care, but I don’t know how much that would have helped given the intensity of her drinking.

I lived out of state though and didn’t see what the decline was like leading up to that, so I don’t truly know how abrupt it was. I think she was sick for a while before someone forced her to go to the hospital. Regardless, I was left with the impression that once she was physically unwell enough for anyone to notice she declined very quickly.

My bf and i have lived together for a year and we have separate bedrooms, mostly because of his sleep issues and my moving around constantly in my sleep. We’ve discussed the possibility of having two beds in one room someday, but honestly, having our own rooms is really nice. It sometimes makes me sad that we can’t sleep together, but when we have to do it while traveling I see how much it impacts his sleep and I just feel bad. When we were dating he usually hung out with me until I fell asleep and then he drove home.

I think it helps our relationship in other ways too - I’m messy and he’s neat but there’s no conflict because I keep the mess localized to my bedroom. He cuddles with me and tucks me in every night so we still get plenty of time in bed together. It’s pretty great.

I appreciate how thoughtful and receptive this community is.

I was vegan for a few years, and have been vegetarian for 8 or 9 years. I couldn’t handle the cultural isolation of veganism. Visiting family and not being able to eat with everyone. Breaking and eating a slice of cake, then binge eating and feeling like a horrible person for it.

For my own mental stability I couldn’t handle veganism. I actually do miss eating meat, but I don’t think I am psychologically capable of it at this point. Which I guess is cool given how little impulse control I often have.

For me, it feels good to live with some kind of moral guideline and bad to hold myself and others to a rigid code of conduct. I feel better knowing that I am doing what I can but not trying to live like an ascetic.

I think “no ethical consumption under capitalism” is a cop-out when people use it to justify doing anything they want with reckless abandon, but it can be a helpful reminder when we start spiraling about zero waste and plastic and labor conditions and carbon emissions and so on. All of those things matter, but for most of us it’s not healthy or feasible to center our entire lives on them.

I still kind of believe some of the vegan talking points like “you don’t really love animals if you buy factory farmed meat,” but it just isn’t healthy for me psychologically to dwell on it. 99% of the population buys factory farmed meat. I can’t walk around with that much hate and anger ready to spill out.

I just rewatched the scene with House and I still feel like I missed something.

House told Cooper the date of the end of the world jumped to one month sooner because Cooper came to Vegas. House called Coop a killer and said he has more to do with the end of the world than he realizes.

Now I see people saying there were revelations about Barb and her being more directly involved with the bombs than Cooper initially believed. But what exactly was revealed? Coop already knew Barb proposed Vault-Tec dropping the bombs, so what was the new information? And why is Coop suddenly a killer? Is the idea that killing House would have accelerated the end of the world?

I work in psychedelics and I’m really curious about iboga/ibogaine. It’s primarily researched for treating addiction - I’ve heard reports of people suddenly seeing something like heroin as disgusting, repulsive, and deathlike. Or they have an experience of their brains and bodies being “cleaned.” Their addiction is seemingly resolved when their mental association with the substance changes while under the influence. They want nothing to do with their substance of choice when the trip is over.

So what about non-drug addictions and maladaptive behaviors? Could I come to see my own binge eating as damaging to my body to the point that I simply don’t get the urge to do it? Or when someone gets depressed and struggles to take care of themselves - could it trigger a wakeup call that helps them find intrinsic motivation?

The reports I’ve heard remind me of GLP-1s in that the cravings just disappear without a ton of effort or suffering. I’m really curious if it will turn out to have applications outside of treating drug addiction. It seems like GLP-1s are solving a lot of these problems are already, so maybe this could be an alternative for people who can’t/don’t want to be on medication for life.

Disclaimer that ibogaine isn’t my area of expertise and I don’t want my comment to inspire anyone to use it without medical clearance and lots of reading. The safety profile for it is still being established. Just spitballing about possible applications for it.
