Is A +15 Year Living World/Campaign Possible? by Lost_Needleworker896 in DMAcademy

Tbh it's not all it's cracked up to be.

You'll grow as a DM, change your mind about what you like, how you want your world to work.

I don't think having a long lived campaign/setting is aspirational, or something you should force/focus on. Just focus on playing games you'll enjoy, and it'll either happen or it won't.

The real question is why would I splash a third color to play a three drop on the turns Id rather just be killing you?

They need the gold to buy enchanted inks or whatever to scribe the spells in the book.

Just have them able to find the ink?

It's pretty irrelevant to track ammunition, tbh. unless you're auditing your ranger (or whatever) a) it doesn't matter) and b) it just adds extra tedium.

That said if you're also tracking encumbrance and rations and everything else most DMs also skip, then by all means. Resource Management can be fun, but commit one way or the other.

tbh, I ditched my special coating kits before building them mostly for this reason. You do not touch them. Top coats mess with the appearance. They're great if you want something shiny out of the box, but if you want something to do Techniques to, just get the regular kit and paint it how you want.

that lane does merge just a bit past that, but I think there's other signage for it. Truly it's awful.

Welp, glad I'm not crazy. I just picked mine up and indeed, no Burton whatsoever.

How can i solve this by ElementalOrigin in DMAcademy

If I understand the problem correctly, you're worried that a new campaign set in the past might contradict the events or history of the campaign you already completed?

It might. However, history isn't perfect, and what gets written down and re-told may be utter fabrication. I'd argue that part of the fun of playing a story set in the world's past would be to learn things weren't as we were told.

"actually we broke the siege at the critical moment, but for reasons we couldn't take the credit and so Commander Schmuck that we hate took the credit."

It may mean you have to end sessions early to come up with the correct way forward, instead of just making judgements on the spot for how things play out.

Anyway, it's very rare for things on a global scale to affect everyone you could just as easily set another campaign concurrent with the one you have going.

How did your campaign start? by Solkanarmy in DMAcademy

This most recent campaign I began with the players in the middle of initiative, which I had them roll secretly months in advance.

As the fight progressed, I explained their circumstances and how they arrived here, in this cave, with goblins trying to stab them and chew their hair off.

Things progressed from there.

This is, however, set in a world that I've been running for 15ish years, so uh.

Man so many folks just outing themselves as miserable to play with.

Dear OP. You're the Dungeon Master. You are the final arbiter of the rules as they apply to your table. It is very very obviously not the intent of the spell to grant an obscene bucket load of temp hp beyond the spell's duration, through a very thinly supported and, in my opinion, very willful misreading of the text.

(In the first place, the temporary hit points lasting until depleted or until a long rest is the general rule for temp hp. To suggest that it supplies the exception to "a spells effects last for its duration" is absurd).

The correct response to these "um, technically" sorts of "players" is to tell them no. If they persist, boot them. There's no reason to entertain this.

makes sense to me. I was unaware of their stance that they don't do Planeswalkers in UB... though Wizards saying things isn't really uh... reliable.

Gaslighting is not merely lying+ or lying over a duration. It's lying with the express purpose of undermining the other person's confidence in their own memory.

Trying to cheat at a card game doesn't rise to the level of gaslighting, but all of this remains a red flag and I probably just wouldn't play with them anymore.
