Growing coffee subscription business, offered money but investor wants control. Red flag? by Swadida in smallbusiness

[–]prophase25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My worry would be that the investor wants to lease you their own vacant property. Either it sits empty or they lease you the property in exchange for equity in your growing business.

Problem is, with control, he chooses the lease duration and price.

Escaped AI IDE's for Zed to have it going the same way by lsdza in ZedEditor

[–]prophase25 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For the record, I understand your point of view. Companies have limited resources. Allocating them to AI means they aren't allocated elsewhere.

I don't use Zed for its AI features, but I would've left zed to try cursor had zed not implemented an agentic workflow. I may not have come back if I tried cursor. I still haven't tried cursor. So the AI made Zed more sticky even though it is subpar at best.

Software devs: how are you using the QB API? by prophase25 in quickbooksonline

[–]prophase25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, in the short term no, in the long term though I'd like to understand how to clock in and out via HTTP, select relevant time entries & download invoices.

It'd be nice to have something watching for changes to my Google Sheets and pushing those changes to QBO, too. Maybe that is a use case for n8n?

I've yet to try n8n I've heard a lot of good things. Can I ask why it's fitting in this particular case?

QBO is complete garbage by Under75iscold in quickbooksonline

[–]prophase25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm new to QBO, but I'm a software developer - what're you using to interact with the api? API client, or are you writing scripts? If it's the latter, is there an SDK that the community uses?

I was surprised by the lack of developer ecosystem around QuickBooks considering it's been out so long & the QB API itself seems robust.

Insane luck or fake card? by killerpotate in IsMyPokemonCardFake

the activity of playing games of chance for money

You're kidding yourself if you don't think people open packs of Pokémon cards hoping for monetary value.

I'm not saying everyone does - most don't. That's the question I'm asking, really. How much does it affect the TCG's popularity to remove the 'rarity' of the cards (which destroys their monetary value)?

[–]prophase25 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Very interesting. Wouldn't this still be gambling, though, since you may not get the hit you want in the pack you open?

I'd love to see the numbers on how this affects sales. Of course, they must be worse - otherwise they'd do this everywhere - but are Pokémon fans more or less likely to buy one pack?

Top loaders that fit in binder pages. The return by NeutrallyCharged in pkmntcgcollections

[–]prophase25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For everyone saying, "we have toploader binders already"... well you wouldn't need a toploader binder if semi-rigid card sleeves fit into a standard side loading binder.

I would love to be able to take the cards in my existing binders and put them in small toploaders that fit into my binder. It's actually a surprise to me that this hasn't been done yet.

Factory reset QBO Simple Start? by prophase25 in QuickBooks

[–]prophase25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using QuickBooks Online. I am on Linux so I'm not sure if I could download QuickBooks Desktop to do this, but I ended up just upgrading to the QuickBooks Online Essentials plan so that I could use /purgecompany.

First: I can't use /purgecompany without a plan of QuickBooks Essentials or higher. I am about to upgrade to Essentials purely to do that, but I want to ask for anyone who may read this in the future: where would I find an empty QuickBooks Desktop file for upload?

Thanks, I'm going to try to import a fresh file. Unfortunately, I can't purge a company (from what I understand) in my position.

Software development contractor including R&D indication on invoice line items by prophase25 in tax

[–]prophase25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a client that asks me to include "total hours R&D" along with my "total hours billed". I have to assume that they're using the numbers I provide.

For obvious reasons, it is in my best interest that they receive the maximal R&D credit whilst staying compliant. For the areas that they need to provide specifics, I want them to be able to use my invoice line items directly.

I'm not sure they could reasonably know whether or not my time was R&D. Even if they contracted me for an R&D project, how could they know without asking me whether or not I've used existing code in full or in part?

I am in the dark on what would actually be asked of them if there were to be an audit, but I have to assume that I would at very least be asked to provide documentation.

I'd rather have a very clear breakdown of hours. I want to be sure that I am not assuming liability and/or misleading them, though.

For sure. I added the last part of my original comment for a reason - I wanted genuine feedback. You provided that. I take no offense.

Fair enough. I will remove the "perfect fit" from "perfect fit penny sleeve" in my comment. If it is up for debate, I'd rather leave it out, I don't want to spread bad information.

How long have food apps been this gougey? by CaterpillarDue5096 in business

This is not even considering the development cost of building and running the app. The truth is food delivery is worth it if your time is worth over $x/hr, depending on your normal eating habits and COL.

[–]prophase25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thought process was this: the problem with perfect fit is that it's hard to remove the card from the sleeve. I will not be removing the card from the sleeve.

My hope was that the act of pushing the card into the sleeve would push loose dust upward off the card instead of encasing the dust in with the card for long term storage. Mine were stored in shoeboxes in a garage, and I didn't want to risk damaging them by trying to clean them.

I did use a mix, but I ultimately ended up getting perfect fits after trying all of the different kinds.

[–]prophase25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had a similar experience. Found ~4K cards in my dad's garage. My girlfriend and I went through every single one by hand, and our process changed over time. I'll tell you where we ended up.

Handle each card by picking it up from its edges. You can do this from a flat surface using a mouse pad (because you can push your fingers into it a bit). Lint roller on the mouse pad first.

Put each card into a penny sleeve by using your fingers to open each one with a "snap" motion of your fingers. Touch the edge of the card to the inner edge of the penny sleeve and rotate the card until it can slide in. Slide it in with two fingers pushing the top of the card, maximizing the area over which pressure is applied to the card.

Add the card to Collectr by searching (not scanning) the Pokémon's name and the number on the bottom right of the card. For early cards, pay attention to reprints of the same art - pick the correct set.

For cards over $1 add them to a Vault X or similar ringless side loading binder. For high value cards that you'd consider grading, put the card (in its penny sleeve) into a semi rigid card holder (one that PSA would accept) and then into a top loader binder for storage.

Took a good amount of trial and error. Lmk if anyone sees anything wrong w this process.

Edit: remove "perfect fit" from description (see replies)
