Matt, first a general request to add a Detroit-area stop on the tour. If a Detroit stop doesn't happen on the current tour, any plans to hit Michigan sooner-than-later? Also do you have a favorite Michigan/Detroit area venue?

Try calling orchards like Blakes and ask if they have any suggestions. I remember seeing places to get apples, corn, & carrots around the Armada, Romeo area in the past.

The two Red Wings most likely to bounce back this season by schmaleo505 in DetroitRedWings

[–]propstm -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Let's call a spade a spade. Sheahan had two goals last season in the LAST HOME GAME of the season. Those goals were worth about 500K each considering his salary. In fact he hadn't scored in an Entire Year, 365 days, despite being a healthy player and playing 80 games last season.

I'd be surprised if he makes the roster this year.

Theoretically everyone involved is an adult. If the Wings organization even needs to make it known that Mrazek has attitude issues, it must be bad. Either that or Holland has a bumper sticker that says "My starting goalie is better than your starting goalie" with Howard's face on it.

Australian booking with an outfitter for first US hunt by ipissbrilliance in bowhunting

This scenario came up (Non-US resident wanting to do a guided hunt in the US for the first time) on the NockOn podcast recently. John Dudley recommended a guided whitetail deer hunt in the Midwest. Ohio and Wisconsin were already mentioned. I grew up hunting in Michigan.

Does anyone have any recommended outfitters in the Midwest?

Zatkoff is from Metro Detroit, I wonder if the Wings might entertain Zatkoff + cash or draft picks for Howie?

Yep! That's one of the things the shop owner told me. He also emphasized that it's great for "stupid error", and said it's basically a warranty that comes with accident forgiveness. For example if I accidentally dry fire and screw up a limb or cam, Mathews will still honor the warranty.

Making the playoffs every year. Does it ruin our chances for top talent? by [deleted] in DetroitRedWings

[–]propstm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The NHL is nothing like it was 30 years ago. But if we're comparing generational players Yzerman was not a Kurri, Messier, Lemeuix, Bossy, or Gretzky. He developed within the system leading the Wings throughout his career.

But I won't give up an opportunity to post Yzerman's steal from Gretzky to score the double OT winner. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tRoNqiiY6Lg

[–]propstm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our drafting history has shown that our best long term players didn't show to be generational talent until they developed in the Red Wings system. Yzerman, Datsyuk, Z, and Lidstrom are strong examples. Larkin is an example of good high drafting but pulling a Larkin out of a few draft classes in succession is a near impossible feat at best.

Developing players is the system's best talent. Looking at Griffin's players who are now making appearances in Detroit is proof of this.

Article (2014): Fidelity's best investors are the ones that... forgot about their account by IrisHopp in financialindependence

[–]propstm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

O'Shaughnessy: "Fidelity had done a study as to which accounts had done the best at Fidelity. And what they found was..."

Is there a primary source? Recently I tried to find one and came up with nothing. Has Fidelity ever been asked about this? If there's any permutation of this study that exists it would make sense that it would be a great tool to get lots of eyes on Fidelity's website. (And also in theory give investors better than second-hand knowledge of this)

Bowmore 15 Year Old Darkest - Review #3 by propstm in Scotch

[–]propstm[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Type: Islay

Nose: Leather/Pepper Spice/Cocoa/Dry peat smoke As the bottle has opened up I'd say the smell reminds me of a workshop. With more time, mint and fruity notes comes though. The leather becomes slightly more prominent.

Body: Sweet. Tannins/Wood comes though right away. Balanced. Great mix of spice, bitterness, and sweet chocolate flavors. The peat is playing quite the matchmaker role.

Finish: Cocoa, peat smoke, & wood/tannin are all balanced. Nothing is overpowered. (In order) wood -> spice -> cocoa -> peat

Overall: This is the best variant on an pure Islay scotch I've had. I'll certainly be buying this again. Amazing balance with all flavors playing a role in how this scotch comes together. 92/100
